the only reason this happens is because of the stupid fast leveling in this game and power leveling. thie is something that yoshi brought upon himself. i hope in 2.0 each level takes hours to get and then you will have less people hitting max in any class. this is the fault of the gimme everything now crew that there's such a high percentage of people with every class at cap. it's something that i hope yoshi takes into consideration in 2.0 and makes the leveling much slower.

the problem isn't that someone can max every job. the problem is you can start and max every battle class in less than a month that's an issue. if the leveling took longer to do then it'd be rare to see people with all classes at cap.

This could be more of a player base desire issue that is driving design decisions.
When a customer wants something, do you give it to them even if it is a bad choice?

Many people think that all the good stuff and good gear only happens at endgame. To them endgame is where the fun starts, so they want to get there as quickly as possible.

And I think that is why SE has allowed the power leveling mechanic to continue to exist for those customers who want it... even if there are those at SE who might feel it's not the right way to enjoy a game.

At least not everyone wants or uses power leveling. That choice is up to the individual player according to their idea of fun.

Not to derail the topic, but I seriously hope power leveling is gone in ARR.

Yoshi has already said that he doesn't have a problem with power leveling. It's working as intended.

Edit: with that in mind we have no idea how long it will take to reach the eventual max level. If it's 75 or 100 we have no idea whether or not it will work the same as now.

I think we can be certain that progression in terms of acquiring abilities and items will remain the primary source of progression. Being level 50 means little. Having the gear means a lot.

Considering you can do Ifrit naked, I'd say the bolded statement is not true at all.

because when ifrit (hard) is really all you've done, that's the summation of endgame... right? and what all else in the game should be judged by?

Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say anything about anything else. I made one statement. A factual one. So stuff it.

Again equipment people will want the same gear since they can be whatever job making it a headache to some people getting that gear when a whm will lot on a pld gear for example.

But I say as a community when you go to raid/instance whatever you make a list say whoever started the party or link shell event on what that player wants as a drop for one particular job they ask for! Though a drop can be something that no one lot for and that can be free lot. For inventory space that a battle will always be in play but I still like being able to be any job....
Your argument about storage is kind of outdated considering it's been stated that if you have a Legacy or the $14.99 account option in 2.0, you can have as many as 8 characters per server with a total of 40 characters across all servers. That and we will have Gear Sets (formerly called Mannequins) for each class/job that will pull the equipment out of our main inventory once set.

As far as acquiring gear goes, in a PUG/content finder group it's probably going to be a free for all as far as loot goes since anyone can technically equip anything. In linkshells/free companies that will have more structure, people will probably declare a "main" class and will only roll on that gear unless something drops that nobody on a main needs, then it becomes a free lot. It just depends on the group of people you play with.

actually yoshi stated himself that the leveling is set intentionally fast in version 1.0. if he has it set intentionally fast for people to be able to complete the 1.0 story chances are very good it will not be there in 2.0. even his poll question when he asks about leveling speed states not counting power leveling so that seems like something getting removed and i hope that's the case.
