account address woes

So, a bit of a backstory:

A few years ago my boyfriend and I met in FFXIV. We spent a lot of time together in Eorzea before meeting person. It was a long distance relationship at first, as we live in two different EU countries. One Expansion later he moved in with me, so far so good.

Sure he can't update his address to the correct one, but so far that did not cause any issues.
It goes against the GDPR though, and Square Enix "solution" when you bring that is to delete your account, which is not acceptable.

However, now he did enter the Fan Fest Screenshot Contest. As the contest rules state,

This Promotion is open only to individuals who are legal residents and physically and permanently located in one of the following countries/territories at the date and time of entry (the “Promotion Jurisdiction”)

, which is the case since he moved to a country that is listed.

However, since he can't change the address in the account his entry might not get accepted despite qualifiying according to the rules. And even if not, they would not be able to ship the physical rewards to him, should he win.
He spent so many hours on the entry submission, and it is a horrible practice to not have a solution ot change the Country on the account - especially within the EU!

It is also absurd that entries are only permitted form a handful of countries and not the whole EU, but that is a different story alltogether.

Please do something Square Enix, deleting accounts of dedicated fans when they demand an address update according to the law is ddefinitely not the solution!

It's absolutely crazy to me that you can't easily and simply change personal details of an account. Some of us have been subscribed for over a decade, and life changes, but we can't update our details?? It's like they actively want to keep old wrong information on purpose, and I don't understand why.

It is really stupid to not be able to change country when this game itself, like all MMORPGs, makes people move country to be with eachother quite frequently. And when a certain percentage of people will move for one reason or another, including due to being in the military.

The main reason I can think for it is because of the regional code of the game. For example, if you bought the EU version of the game then moved to NA, you still have the EU codes registered to the account. Even if they make you buy the game all over again, they should let you switch region and keep your character and such.

I think they just don't know how to that, prob using some early 90s database that no one knows how to operate.

Im IN NZ. I get charged in Euros.
After OCE launched i asked about having the region for my game updated since it shows New Zealand as being a part of the Isle of Mann in the UK (And charges us in Euros not GBP lol).
SE's supports response was they cant change region and "As far as Square-Enix is concerned, New Zealand is a part of the UK and Europe and will be charged in the correct currency for that part of the world."
They Cannot not, and would not change the region for people located in New Zealand and Australia to reflect.

I mean come on SE, its 2026 not the 1850's. NZ and Australia have not been a part of the UK in well over 100 years. Maybe look at a map that shows beyond Japan's borders and get with the times.

I never understood why SE insists on sticking with such archaic back end systems that are holding together worse than Bethesda's Creative Engine, look how difficult it to handle anything on the Mogstation which also has not been updated since the XIV launch.

There's no way this is real. Do they also think Japanese territory includes Korea and Manchuria??

I remember how hard was it for me to buy this game since I'm in EU but not from a country that is in European Union. Buy a game -> Can't select my own country, have to select closest neighbor. Put other info and pray that my card doesn't get rejected because of another country.

Then they send me an email saying that they can't ship me the game because I don't belong in EU. Yeah like fine, just give me the game...

I've tried for years to change my email address but SE is the very worst of the worst when it comes to simple thing we all take for granted. 2026 and they can't get something as simple as update your personal info website working.
