    The problem with Phys Ranged is that they can't do too much damage because free movement in this game is just broken, if they are outputting the same raw damage as melees then there is an actual reason to never use melees/casters. If PRanged gets buffed in 8.0 and has their dps penalty removed and we see MCH/BRD/DNC/"The New One" doing as much damage as dps outside of their role, there is a chance we go back to HW where we are running 2 maybe even 3 pranged. But they also can't just make their damage too low, or the role gets completed axed for another caster. Why would you ever run a BRD or DNC when Picto and RDM can do the same thing but better? We already see this exact problem with MCH right now, there is never a reason to play it for anything close to early week clears because it just doesn't do the damage necessary for the content, making everyone else have to try significantly harder (or rely harder on crit rng).

    I agree in that it's been the official explanation for ages, that all the supposed support it brings should come at a cost in the damage department, but having read some of the more recently explanations it's now obvious and factual that they do balance current rphys in relation to what they consider "easy" and "hard" jobs.
    Rphys and SMN are damage taxed because they're considered "easy".
    SMN has also seen the justification that it's because of the raise, but RDM has been gradually buffed to overtake SMN in spite of having chain raises.

    No matter what justifications SE or people like to come up with to justify the damage tax, being raises, support or whatever, is just smoke and mirrors, because the actual explanation has always been since HW that they do balance jobs around what they perceive them to be on the difficulty scale.

    I do genuinely hope they're done with that hypocritical, biased agenda in EC and evolved jobs.
