[EVOLVED] Hold the Button Instead of Spamming It.

Hello Square Enix,

I wanted to contact you today following the major and recent announcement regarding the future of FFXIV, and more specifically the Evolved mode you introduced.

Like many players, I also took a break from FFXIV after the conclusion of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark arc (Endwalker). I was disappointed by Dawntrail’s storytelling, the exhausting and repetitive tomestone farming system that barely changes from one expansion to another, as well as the increasingly noticeable lack of French voice acting.

While most of these concerns seem likely to improve with the release of 8.0 in January 2027, I mainly wanted to share a suggestion regarding the Evolved Mode itself.

The Evolved Mode finally allows us to: merge skills/spells together in order to make combos more intuitive (on a single button like in PvP), while also automatically switching abilities depending on combat situations and enemy/ally positioning. This is excellent news!

However, even today, I still notice that players are required to constantly spam their controller or keyboard buttons in order for their character to chain abilities/spells together. This will become even more noticeable now that combo chains will be placed onto a single button that still has to be repeatedly mashed in order to execute the combo.



This feels like the perfect opportunity to finally add a feature that many players have requested for years:
Hold the button to automatically chain abilities/spells continuously!

Just like some competing games already offer, this would not only reduce mental strain by removing the need to constantly stare at our hotbars waiting for the right GCD timing (even if the buffer window is already generous), but it would also allow players to fully enjoy the combat and the beautiful animations of their character.

The screen itself would fluidly and naturally indicate in real time which part of the combo we are currently performing, simply by holding the action button.

Furthermore, this would greatly improve accessibility for players with motor disabilities who cannot repeatedly press buttons over long gaming sessions, allowing them to fully enjoy the FFXIV experience!



For all these reasons, I am still surprised that such a feature does not yet exist in FFXIV, and I genuinely believe the arrival of Evolved Mode would be the perfect opportunity to implement it.
