Wish we can have this. Sometimes I'd want to play a difference race without permanently changing my original character. It's such a hassle to transfer items between alternate characters.

Yeah, the fact that we can't even mail our alts is odd, but Yoshi-P has said a lot he genuinely doesn't see the point of alt characters in this game, so I don't think anything regarding alts will be changed anytime soon, sadly.
You can kind of get around it with the FC chest but then you do have to get your alt in said FC first.
That was fun! I'm going to take a 21 hour nap now~

I recently learned that FFXI already allows this through its Delivery Box system, which sounds like the equivalent of our moogle mail delivery system but also allows you to send at least some untradable items to your alts.
I understand if they want to restrict the flow of RMT-related stuff, but if they put limits on how much can be sent, that would still be so much better than what we have now. Or they could just let us send untradable items with little gil value.
I would love to be able to pass things like dungeon drops between my characters instead of being stuck with a rare fortunate drop on the wrong character.

I can give one example of how alts get used: Treasure Maps. Normally a character is allotted one collection of a treasure map per day. But if you have alts, you can collect as many maps as you have capable characters of doing so. The snag is that in order to complete the process to store up on treasure maps, you either need a second person or an alt account in order to store the map via moogle mail. Lets say you have a friend work with you on this, they would need to create alt characters as both mail receiver and sender, to make full use of these alts, they need to have completed the level 17 MSQ quest "Scions of the Seventh Dawn" which is right after the first run of Copperbell Mine dungeon. Then having each character also completed the level 20 MSQ quest "For Coin and Country" in order to unlock the grand companies, then completing both the side quests of My Little Chocobo and also My Fiesty Little Chocobo.Yeah, the fact that we can't even mail our alts is odd, but Yoshi-P has said a lot he genuinely doesn't see the point of alt characters in this game, so I don't think anything regarding alts will be changed anytime soon, sadly.

That on a full "mail network", between two players on the same world server, each player has 8 characters and each character has 2 retainers and a chocobo saddlebag, totaling up to 16 characters and 32 retainers and 16 saddlebags. And since each character has 20 storage spaces in the mailbox, this is multiplied by 16, resulting in a total of 320 storage space slots. And that the main character for both players each also has 1 active treasure map. And each character can store 1 inactive treasure map in their inventory. Which totals up to a shared maximum of 386 treasure maps. And that to fill this maximum would take about 25 days or close to a month.
The reason to have that many is the in-game limitations of treasure maps themselves. As without utilizing it you can only have at a given time 1 active treasure map, 1 map in your inventory, 1 in your saddlebag, 1 for each retainer. 5 in total at the baseline. And since you can't moogle mail to your own alts, every alt is also technically your main if you actually want to do treasure dungeons unless you do the aforementioned method above. And in addition, you can't use FC storage for storing treasure maps.
And that this is at best a open secret when it comes to storage.

I'm in favor of this. The RMT argument is not so compelling when they're just forming FCs and carrying on business as they need to. Stop inconveniencing actual players just because it's something RMT might use. They're doing fine without it, and we could really use it!
yes pls. my alts need this.
also how about making both glam chests account wide? that would be very useful. it would probably make me buy a lot of glam in the shop i dont really use and it might reduce the memory space a bit they have to reserve for each account. (i would wish that especially for the armoir)
and also: if they gonna add more and more gear to the armoir (i hope very much so) the glam chest will only be needed for some coloured pieces. so there wont be a need anymore for a 800 slot glam chest on every character... which probably would free up quite a bit more memory space. to reduce that. and instead of reducing it on every character making it account wide would benefit single character player more.

for satisfying glam builduing we need 5 basic glamplates + 2 more for each class / job
pls add old glowy ex trial weapons for new jobs!
and for gods sake pls give as the ability to preview any hairstyle on our own character!
Two only ways are to have a friend whom you trust so much so you just send infinite mails to them or they trade to your alts when online.
Another way is to create your own FC and get help to invite your alts there, again with a friend if possible.

>still offers higher priced subscription that allows 40 instead of 8 characters per region
>justifies high prices for mounts because they are account wide
Something doesn't adds up

I don't really make extensive use of the alts I do have as I do tend to do pretty much everything on my main, but I still would completely support more systems to integrate progress between alts when and where the players wanted to take advantage of it. I know some players do view their alts as completely separate characters so I wouldn't want to force integration on them but there are also a lot of players who would love to share storage/mounts/achievements/etc. and would opt in the instant the option became available (myself included).
