Seriously now: How many of you just happened to waltz into delkfutt's tower and found out that the CoP storyline started there? Personally, the moment I logged on with CoP, my LS mates told me to go to delkfutt's for a cool cutscene. The fact that I was told to go there didn't remove any bit of excitement or adventure from the CS though.

Secret quests are pointless when you're playing an MMO in which there's an online community that has access to the whole amount of knowledge the playerbase has about the game. I really don't see the point of having secret stuff that you won't know about unless someone happens to stumble upon it; if the quest is worthwhile, as soon as someone knows about it they're going to tell you whether you want them to or not. If the quest is not worthwhile, then why bother making it secret?

    We'll take it into consideration.

*Slowly raises hand* I completely stumbled upon CoP the first time and it was quite the pleasant surprise indeed. That being said, it's easy to imagine that those of us who are well informed the "intellectual elite" as it were, constitute the entire playerbase. I would venture a guess that quite a few people stumble upon things like this all the time (though less so in FFXIV for the exact reasons we are having this discussion).

Basic, fundamental, gameplay should be easy and accessible, but diligence should also be rewarded. What better way to reward exploration than in a way that does not punish those that do not.

I did, I stumbled on a lot of things in FFXI, I also looked stuff up as well. What makes a quest worthwhile? the reward? Can't you have a random quest that is fun/entertaining with a silly reward?

Problem with your thinking, no game should have secrets. Well, whats the point if you can just look it up? Whats the point if they are silly secrets, like Easter eggs.

SE used to love trolling us with secrets.

Hell there were even a large number of NM's that didn't drop anything and existed just for one of the designers wanting to reference something.

Bat trio called Black Tripple stars (Gundam reference)

Nowdays you can't release a item without telling people when/where/how they can get it.

    Quests in A Realm Reborn

In addition to the currently existing kinds of quests, in A Realm Reborn we are looking into adding quests that appear regularly in the field. We are also considering quests that begin when you discover or pick-up a mysterious item, but the implementation timing for this is still being discussed. "

Sooooooooooooo ya, pretty much everyone... ya... They are doing something that I want, sooo ya....

Also for the people that say it wont work, SE thinks otherwise

Lesson learned: Create enough speculative threads based off half quotes and misinformation and eventually you'll come out on top in one of them.

There wasn't any speculation, I was asking for it.
