    Can Meteor's next job not be melee?

    I want to throw out there a chance to gain some support to have meteor's future jobs explore the physical ranged, magical ranged, or healer roles. Obviously, there are more important issues to address than what a mascot does in a trailer for the game, but we can advocate for some better role representation while also talking about other issues at the same time.

    But it's hard to make non-melee jobs look interesting in trailers. Really? I find it hard to believe you couldn't make Machinist look cool in a trailer, or Dancer who's already very mobile and melee-like in nature, or magic in general. From what little action Alphinaud's gotten, Sage appears pretty dope in trailers (can't say the same for in-game at the moment but I digress).

    To give an example, if we ever end up exploring the world that fell during the sixth umbral calamity, having him dawn two jobs as Black Mage and White Mage would be an incredibly thematic choice. But while gameplay is obviously what matters a lot more, it would be nice to see other roles get some love and representation in the game's marketing.

    Sage has failed to live up to the fantasy of a sci-fi DPS healer. Please change this for 8.0. Make Sage fast, exciting, and aggressive. It should feel like a healer that plays like a DPS. Empower the aspects of Sage's unique healing mechanics: Kardia and Eukrasia to give its healing playstyle more identity.

    If they show Meteor with a new job, I am betting its the tank with maybe someone else showing up with the ranged physical.

    100% because if the cycle holds 9.0 will he a healer and a melee meteor in 9.0 will either be the new melee or if nobody takes 8.0’s new tank permanently in the scions then he will be the 8.0 tank in 9.0

    With the way the cycle works if it holds every expansion releases a melee. Since they broke their rule on not giving meteor a new expansion job with VPR in 7.0 now they can just endlessly make meteor a new melee each time and they still have NIN and potentially the new 8.0 tank waiting in the wings if they want to make someone else the new melee job each expansion

    As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

    I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

    Only with a distinct lack of imagination/creativity is that true

    There are no restraints when it comes to how creative you can be with Magical combat, because Magic is as freeform as you want it to be in the lore. For existing Jobs as examples, WHM and BLM almost ended the world with their respective spellcraft, SMN can summon literal deity figures to wreak elemental havoc, SCH were able to fend off the BLMs over and over while heavily outnumbered, and if the Job Quests are to be believed, master ASTs can literally stop time for a few seconds

    My favourite example is the SHB trailer, where after trying FIVE different Physical Jobs, WOL turns to DRK and uses, not the big sword, but a blast of Darkness Aether and instantly vaporizes the enemy

    I don't really get the fuss about "showing him using other roles" – while at one level he's a stand-in for all WoLs, he's also a distinct character in the same way that each of the characters I play is a unique character who I associate with a particular subset of classes as their identity. Trailer guy is "a brown-haired Hyur melee fighter" and that's part of what makes him a WoL but not *my* WoL.

    Would it somehow hurt your experience if he were showcased as a physical ranged, magical ranged, or healer job? If not, then I don't see the problem here.
