    Consolidated 8.0 UI/Interface Desires Thread

    Are these threads taken as input? No idea.

    Would making a new consolidated thread and with a bunch of momentum from posts/views/thumbs-ups maybe get attention? Also no idea! But worth a shot!


    Instead of making a bunch of new threads, relying on scattered posts from the past few years, or appending to the 11 year old existing thread, how about we add some stuff we'd like to see in the 8.0 interface in a new thread here?


    I'd suggest one item per post (multiple posts if you have multiple ideas) so individual items can get their own thumbs-up counts. Repeat from a previous thread? Link it as well!

    The party list displays a yellow overlay (and pips) if you have a shield to give you a rough idea how much bonus health you have from shields. It would be great if the basic personal health bar at the bottom of the screen also displayed this (or some kind of overlay). As far as I know there's no source of shield strength information for solo play except leaving the party list up at all times.

    The parameter bar (/hudlayout name) currently displays both HP and MP for all jobs, regardless of whether they even have a job function that interacts with MP. For gathercraft classes this changes to CP/GP for their specific resource type. The bar can only be enabled or disabled wholesale.


    It would be nice if we could disable display of _only_ HP (not interested in my health on Carpenter - too low to be relevant) or _only_ MP/CP/GP (for classes/jobs that use none of these) to clear up additional HUD space.

    It would be very useful for /hudlayout to have an option to display test visuals for specific or all elements. Some panels don't have anything to display at all in /hudlayout which makes them difficult to position, others may change size depending on how many enemies, party members, etc. are present.

    An option to adjust ability tooltips so they only displayed during mouse hover when a given modifier key is also being held down would be useful. I don't always want tooltips for abilities on mouseover (in fact it can be quite distracting), but it would be nice to be able to reference an ability tooltip quickly without needing to open the actions pane and hunt down the ability or be forced to have the tooltips enabled for everything at once.

    Adding a search field to inventory panes that dims the icons of any item with a name that doesn't match a partial text string typed into it would be useful for finding things in chocobo bags, retainers, etc. We have many visually similar (or identical) icons, and I imagine this could probably happen entirely locally to be faster/less impactful than /isearch.

    Crafting reagents (shards/crystals/clusters) have some clunky handling that is implemented inconsistently across various UI actions. Depending on what you're doing, if you would overcap your inventory of a given type by picking up enough that you go past 9999 it either discards the excess silently (aetherial reduction, retainer ventures), or completely blocks your action (gathering, free company airships/submersibles returns) until you free up enough space.


    You also cannot discard amounts smaller than 9999. If you and your retainers are capped on a given type, you either need to throw away a full inventory if crystals, or post them on the market board and hope someone buys them before it becomes a nuisance to have the limited sale slot occupied.


    It would be a nice little quality of life tweak if everything just allowed the reagents to silently overcap (or with a warning that could be disabled, or a setting to allow overcapping globally).

    The various victory fanfare sounds that happen when you complete a retainer venture or cosmic exploration mission (etc.) can quickly become irritating when they're happening repeatedly in quick succession. The option to disable these (or moving them to a different sound channel than bgm so the workaround isn't "shut off all music") would be really nice.
