to be even more hopeful a "balcony" feature would allow instanced players in apartments to use a small number of outside furnishing.
i dont think it would as there's a item limit due to server and game engine constraints.

    Instanced could hypothetically be better

We could keep the wards as they are and add instance houses on top of that.

The demolition system can be kept in place for wards too to make sure they're still available for those who want them. You do get that big public yard that I'm constantly told people visit all the time too so fairs fair.
Oh so working backwards from your conclusion to justify screwing over a subsection of players to keep them vulnerable to being removed off their plot so players can vulture ward plots without threats to their own instanced plot.

That's why you want to keep the demo timer active for Ward players, but turned off for instanced houses. It gives you security while keeping anyone with a Ward plot at risk of losing it.

But you've proved my point this was never about equal opportunity, its using "equity" as a Trojan horse for prestige.

Don't say the demo timer is bad, and in the next breath say "But this group of player needs to keep it"

that's self serving. But I appreciate your honesty.

If SE did go the route of a fully-instanced, safe from demolition ward, they could simply make it a free transfer for existing homeowners if that sounds more appealing to them. It would be up to each individual person to decide if they want to keep paying a sub for whatever extra perks a "real" plot may offer, or simply jump ship and go instanced.

Nothing about this is for prestige, simply trying to think of ideas to make housing more fair for all - and also more inline with their original statement about never having to keep an active sub to keep your house.

As an aside, it sounds like you think only homeless people are after this change. I have a house. In all my years playing, I've owned about 10 different houses, all different sizes and in different locations. Every single ward was absolutely dead. The most activity I've seen is in my current house where I have two people that stand AFK practically all day at the summoning bell, and that's it. Having a large number of owners per plot could help make them feel a bit more lived instead of the massive empty zone most of us experience.

If everyone has a instanced plot.

What is the point of keeping the demo timer on?

if the demo timer is such a problem, why are you championing to remove it. but telling another set of players its fine to leave that timer on you.

Is it the exclusivity you're fighting for, and accessibility is the crowbar you're using to get it.

Here the only 3 choices you have.

Turn off the Demo timer for Everyone (nobody can get a Ward plot)

Turn it on for everyone. (you undermined the point you've been trying to make but its fair)

Admit that you're completely fine with inconsistent application of rules creating a 2nd class system (you look selfish and self serving)

My free company's personal rooms get more love, attention, and usage than 90% of housing because we actually use them to hangout and meet-up.

I think the difference there is we can all just teleport right to the house with everyone else. Private housing has to be hunted down.

My small house was cheap because it was in a really inconvenient spot. No one visits and I really haven't done anything with it because as soon as I got it I realized it was completely extraneous.

Nothing about what I said bars ward house owners from having an additional instanced house as well. As I see it, they are separate systems. If you want the liminal space ward feeling, you get to deal with the demolition timer. Otherwise they'll fill up once forever and never ever ever be available again.
And still no one would visit lol.

I'm just curious, do you seethe this much over apartments not having a timer too? Because the only difference I'm seeing here is apartments would have a yard they can put outdoor decorations in.

that's a playerbase issue. not a dev issue. the neighborhood system works as intended.
the playerbase refuse to use the spaces given to them, instead opting to sit like fking idiots in limsa & balmung.

However, i will suggest, that if they were to run some kind of fate system, or events in housing wards. ...we could see a turn around.
But other than that, it's not game issue, it's not "neighborhood bad", it's the fact that players don't want to be there.
fix the playerbase, not the game.

That makes no sense. People play games to have fun. If they have more fun standing in Limsa, it's because SE failed to provide a better alternative (not that they care, a sub's a sub).
