We're saying that using facetarget does the same job as /sit, but in a real effective way .....Yes but the sit animation takes about 4 seconds, during which time you are not recovering MP. It only takes 1-2 seconds at most for the server to acknowledge you are not moving (this is without /facetarget). Hence, sitting offers no regen benefit and actually wastes time.

Haven't tried it with facetarget yet, i will in a bit.
/sit is not the same as restign in XI. It how does start a faster max regen in beign still. If I am already still and gettign the tick no need to sit at all. Hopefully the server realizing it will be fixed soon or in ARR.
In theory /facetarget should cause the same effect, some say it is more delayed but I will see. I really don't like people who sit on the job.
they think they're still in ffxi lol. i've seen some ppl do this on ifrit

So... using sit effectively means you get a tick back... but you need to wait for the animation of both sitting down and getting back up before you can cast again meaning you just lost what you gained.
And if you stop moving THEN sit ... you are gaining nothing, except enmity from your party members for being foolish.
Personally I like to simply be efficient with my MP and get into my position/s quickly.

The entire process of "standing still" to regain MP is ridiculous and makes casters incredibly dull. MP needs to regen regardless of your movement.
Stationary mage syndrome is a bad mechanic.
/sit is a left over from people who played FFXI as you had to rest there in order to recover MP.
Here, MP recover rate increases the moment the server recognizes you have stopped moving.
Up to you to decide the fastest way to tell the server you've stopped moving.
Me, I just stop moving.

It might be interesting to know that you regen 7% of your max MP per regen tick when standing, and I think it goes up to 9% when standing with shroud of saints on.
Might be useful for you guys to know.

I'm going with the "combating packet loss" theory. The act of sitting doesn't make you gain more mp per tick, but it could force the server to recognize that you are standing still, which would in turn give you more mp per tick. I've tested it and have noticed more mp per tick, but I think it's because the server recognized that i was stationary more quickly rather than being directly attributed to the act of sitting. After all, we all know the servers have a huge issue with packet loss. I'd say that sitting has a chance of giving you more mp, but due to difference in mp of sitting or not sitting, and the amount of time it takes to sit then get back up, i wouldn't recommend it in an ifrit fight, or skirmish, or anywhere else where the time it takes for the animation to sit and stand could cost you the win.

the whole sitting for MP is a stupid habit of ffxi players who needed to go into a rest mode
in ffxiv standing or sitting is the same there is not speed deffrence between the 2
sitting takes longer as you wont start recovering untill after you sit then you need to stand up to be usefull again
my suggestion is to kick them from party for being dumb and useless and get a replacment
