Really stupid question on MP recovery

I was in a skirmish group and one of my BLMs was periodically sitting down in the middle of a fight. I asked and he claimed you recover MP faster if you do that. I'd never seen anyone do that before today. Is that really true? If so, when was that put in?

I'm not sure. I've been told that as well, and tried it. I really didn't notice a difference, though.

The angels dance like feathers float, they're here to see and to be seen,
The clock strikes two, the music slows and each one slowly dons their wings,
Once outside they all pair off and hand in hand they leave
But I'm still waiting, yeah, and I'm still waiting

Placebo effect for the most part, you're just "forced" stationary when you're sitting which is how you gain faster/higher hp & mp/tic.

Midway through Moogle Phase 2, the two White Mages of my LS were having that exact discussion (they were quite dry from nuking during Phase 1).
One of them decided "I'll prove it, look *sits*" and counts, and then "... Crap!" and it did not work at all!
    Yeah, it's silly

It does not recover faster, it just FORCES you to sit still, I however, wanted a /rest and everyone was like EEEW. But no, it doesn't recover faster, standing still recovers the same amount as sitting, though easier to move, and if you move you recover a little slower.

This is coming from a guy who doesn't know anything about the game, because I only have two 50s and play off and on~ So, it's your choice to believe me or not.

Doesn't matter if your sitting or just standing still, but no point in sitting, doesn't recover faster.

standing still for X amount of time helps you recover MP faster. before /facetarget, using /sit allowed you to force the server to recognize you'd stopped moving, to squeeze out an extra tick or two of mp regen before you had to move again. now that we have /facetarget, though, it's basically pointless to use /sit

Standing stationary still is what recoveres it faster. Sitting has the same effect.

Edit: Just realized the poster above me wrote the same thing =/

It doesn't recover MP faster, but what it DOES do is make the system realize faster that you're still. MP regeneration ticks up slowly when you are moving without enmity and in passive mode...but it ticks up much faster when you're still.

Where sitting comes in, is that SOMETIMES (okay, LOTS of times), the system can take several seconds (10-15 sometimes) to realize that you're not just in passive, but also are sitting still. Sitting down makes it realize this immediately and it will jump straight to fast-tick regeneration.

So yes, sitting actually does help.
