Chocobos: how far they can go?

actually in more than one FF game chocobos can fly but they are usually gotten near the end game before can get the airship, also in FF9 depend if was light blue can cross rivers and dark blue can cross oceans

Still a chocobo running around on water in this game, seems totally ridiculous to me.
