Their specialization will most likely just mean that taking one each is gonna be similar to bringing 1x Pure healer + 1x Barrier Healer rather than 2x Barrier Healer (good mitigation, less access of direct heals for top-up). I will say it right here, right now - you will be able to maintank as an Evo-WAR, Evo-DRK or Evo-GNB just fine, you will have your ways to make Evo-PLD and Evo-NewTank work as an off-tank. You will have to anyways with forced swaps due to debuffs / tankbusters demanding it.


    Also, Reborn Tank styles will still exist. Keep that in mind. As for your suggestion - removing the mitigation from Bloodwhetting depending on what you trade the HP increase for would potentially cement WAR more as an off-tank for making its' self-mitigation weaker.

    Let's not overthink it too much. It's just labels.
    Ehh. Problem is we have seen this song and dance before. Plus you failed to mention that while they did try it in HW the main reason WAR was thrust into the MT role was because PLD that was meant to be the MT in HW was just completely terrible the entire expansion and was reliant on "is the boss physical" while DRK was the other OT with WAR that just made better sense to go double "OT" because their debuffs on the boss was more valuable with constant party mitigation, which may happen next expansion where we will just ingore both MTs and go full double OTs if their party is strong. After all we have learned that party/OT skill mits can be just as useful if not better than strong personal mits and all we need as tanks is invulns. If we struggle with cooldowns, just tank swap.

    Hence the main reason the OT/MT argument is dumb to begin with. It's something good players will actively just ignore and MT with whatever they want to even if its not intended by the devs. Has happened repeatedly and to assume differently is immense amount of copium.

    Past performance is not indicative of future results. You are assuming that if devs failed at some design direction over a decade ago they will fail at it again, either because they are incompetent or unable to learn, or because that design direction is impossible to implement (it's not).

    We aren't in Heavensward anymore. Block works against magic, tanks don't have a dps stance, tank stance doesn't penalize dps, threat is never an issue, and PLD is the best MT today (yes, better than WAR). The only other subrole split example we have in current game - the healers - is working as the devs intended, and if they can make double barrier not be the meta comp, they can make double OT not be the meta comp.

    DRK being designed as a OT in HW, while having the best weaponskill of the game (reprisal) locked behind a parry and some cooldown reset behind a dodge ? Having more and better defensives cooldown than War (as a reminder, HW DRK got it's own version or rempart on top of everything), while having a more than enough self sustain at time ? I think you misremembered this era.

    Noneless, it was more than 10 years ago, mistakes can be avoided.

    Warrior identity should go back to bigger hp pool, less mitigation, more unga bunga. Like it was meant to be, in the long long ago.
