Evolved Mode more of the same?

I don't think I'm in the minority saying this but is this system while it seems exciting and cool on the surface isnt it just that? I understand we're watching early concepts but from the reveal I don't see it changing much from what was shown.

It feels as though the hype is just for "omg this is different" but I don't see it as better or giving players significantly more agency when deciding what they're going to do next in their rotation. Just hit glowy bar next and you will do okay. I do however think it gets a bit closer to that, Bard was interesting making it seem a little more of a support which it really hasn't been since the glory days of 1.0. but what they've revealed in the showcase didn't seem revolutionary in the slightest. Though I cant speak for everyone it would be nice to actually have a combat system that rewarded good on the fly thinking instead of just hit glow next. But again it seems like everyone already loves the way the game plays and how jobs play already so I could just be in the minority. Been playing since 1.0 and it feels like the combat system has progressively gotten worse over the past 12/13 years (I personally believe this game peaked in Heavensward) and it's taken them 12-13 years to even look at the combat system for meaningful changes, or at least what appears to be their attempt at meaningful changes.

I don't want ruin peoples day about it I understand alot of people really like the game and everything that it currently is and enjoy getting excited about whatever thing they showcase next. But from someone who's been playing for a very long time, I genuinely cant remember the last time any news for FFXIV actually excited me about the game. And it worries/saddens me a bit that this is a really good opportunity for them to make the game (in my view) alot better, the combat rewarding being skilled at a job and being able to make good decisions on the fly based on what your group/raid needs.

I dunno, to me it sounds fun.

Is it still all static rotation with 0 flexibility? Of course. It seems the devs aren't budging on their core underlying issue, their unwillingness to embrace other archetypes like proc-based, resource-based or dynamic-branching classes. All static-rotation, all the time.

But, within that context, these new setups seem significantly better. If for no other reason that if your setup is static-rotation anyways, you might as well do it with 12 buttons instead of 30. It's flat either way, so might as well make it easier to use on controllers and such, it loses no complexity or depth to do this.

Plus, individually the shown stuff is cool. Dragoons having separate side-positions looks fun as hell, Bards having actual support on their songs and being able to move them around the minute as needed is neat as hell, Paladin having charge+cover and stuff is amazing. So much input from PvP. Dragoon jump! And PvP skills are amazing conceptually, so this is still static-rotation type design, but better static-rotation type design!
