    CPU vs GPU Upgrade?

First and foremost, I may wait for 2.0 anyways, but in terms of how the game is currently, I wonder the following:

I am currently running the following custom build:
Athlon X4 640 3.0ghz Quad Core (about between an Intel Q6700 and Q6800 in power for reference)
    GeForce GTS 250
    4G DDR3-1333 RAM
    Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD
    Etc...

I'm mainly looking into bumping up the CPU or GPU. I realize in FFXI, the CPU was more of an important factor (never needed more than my ol' 7600GT back when!). Between my current setup, which would you feel could use an upgrade more than the other and why?

Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.

Neither of those are stellar. If you're pressed for cash and can only upgrade one of them though, I would suggest the video card, though the CPU would also likely present you with a good amount in in-game stuttering, and I say this from experience. Also, what OS are you using?

I'm with ketone. i don't think you'll receive a big enough payoff to justify only upgrading one of those. I'd save up and just get a whole new rig.

I'm going to guess you're not super proficient at troubleshooting because you're not sure which to upgrade. once you do upgrade you will for sure have a bottle neck. and if you don't know how to figure out where it is, you're going to struggle with your upgrade. So I highly advice against doing a single upgrade and just getting a new rig. (you can keep the SSD)

if you insist, i'd recommend doing the GPU first. It's easier all around to swap out and monitor. I suggest going up to a GTX480. the next jump after that one is the 680. don't bother with a 500 series, the jump in performance is fairly marginal compared to the 480.
