Oceania Datacenter having multi-language support in Chat (Whitelist of Words/Phrases)

I think the Oceania Datacenter should support other languages and truly be the World International Datacenter for FF14.

Unless Square Enix wants to hire moderators or GMs for each added language, I think there should be a whitelist of words and phrases that would be used in other languages, similar to the current chat settings in PVP. In addition, this whitelist would also include pre-approved url links to Bluesky and other websites that support those languages. The chats would be locked to a language and there would be no mixing or hand typing characters in those chats on the Oceania Datacenter.

I think these languages below should be added in their own locked Chat sessions with their corresponding character sets using the whitelist mentioned above.

    Chinese
    Arabic
    Indonesian
    Russian
    Hindi
    Ukrainian
    Spanish
    Korean
    Portuguese

For example, the whitelist should only include words and phrases like the ones below and translated into the above languages for the OCE Datacenter.

    “Hello”
    “Welcome”
    “Let’s meet here”
    “Let’s follow this strategy”
    “Yes”
    “No”
    “Goodbye”
    “Follow me”

Also, I think changing the battles on the Oceania Datacenter to have the battles have more telegraphs or more graphical hints would also help than actually having the need to read the text of the enemy casts from bosses.

And lastly, I think using a whitelist for character names would also help in character creations on the OCE Datacenter for multi-languages, locking those characters chat in their language.

This would make the game more internationally friendly and not dependent on knowing any one language…

    Your thoughts?

The game just isn't particularly aimed at people who only speak those languages, at the moment. They haven't localized them and it gets progressively less likely they will the longer the game does unless they use AI or give in and implement Google Translate.

(Except Chinese. There is a Chinese version of the game.)

If they expand the auto translate dictionary, you could achieve the same effects. You would need a separate option to choose the language the auto translate dictionary shows, but it achieves the same effect without having to lock people to a specific chat.

You also are not going to see any links to places that aren't controlled by FFXIV themselves. IE, if there was a Spanish creator, SE is not going to link their socials. They will only link to the official SE accounts, which would then require them to make separate accounts for each language and translate everything into each language. I, personally, do not see this happening, but who knows.

I have to strongly disagree with this. The game is aimed for “Final Fantasy Fans”, and Square Enix has translated numerous games in the Fantasy Fantasy Series in multiple languages.

It would make perfect sense for a game meant to be a “theme park” of the final fantasy series to have more language options.

I can name a few final fantasy games there were translated in Russian, Chinese, Arabic, and etc.

I hope the developers run a small pilot program and see how it goes, with say Chinese first…

I agree with this and hope Square Enix runs a pilot program with any other language and sees how it goes. Not a lot of work, but tons of rewards of just adding a few other languages.

SE hgas made some games only in Japanese. Those games are aimed.... at people who can understand Japanese. Games are only intended for the people to whom they were localized for.

It could be argued that the International Community is more loyal to the Final Fantasy series than the American community. Look at the amount of work these fans put in to share the unforgettable stories from the final fantasy series, and now they want to hear the world award winning story in Final Fantasy 14.

I think Square Enix owes at least a language pilot program for these dedicated fans around the world…

I'm not sure if there's reason for it because they already have official Chinese and Korean servers dedicated to FF14 and they don't even want to add a Spanish translation when it has a huge audience for it now for overseas players either.

Having been a Disneyland Cast Member in real life (in Anaheim, CA), I think Yoshi-P should consider allowing more language support if his dream is truly making Final Fantasy 14 into a Virtual Theme Park. Disneyland improved its language support over time with a tool called “Ears to the World”.

“The Ears to the World, Disney Show Translator*is a wireless headphone unit that to the very best of my current knowledge translates spoken English into French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish at these select Disney Attractions.”

Carrying on his work and memory…

For what it’s worth, I would like to mention this quote from President Putin about Former Japanese President Shinzo Abe and his incredible and life-changing work of building relations with foreign countries.

“But the memory of him, his activities, and his work is carefully preserved here in Russia.” -President Putin

    http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/77060

Here is Mr. Shinzo Abe with Iranian leaders and I have also provided a link to the article.

"Amid concerns over growing tension in the Middle East, and with the attention of the international community on the issue, Japan wishes to do its best toward peace and stability in the region," Abe told reporters in Tokyo before leaving for Tehran.

With that being said, I believe Square Enix and the FF14 team should seriously consider making Final Fantasy 14 more open and transparent to more fans…
