I lost the house I've had since 2019

I'm not really one to post online, moreso when I don't really have anything positive to contribute. But there's not really much else I can do, other than literally cry and sort items.

I've had plots for years, and in 2019 I somehow got my dream plot before the lottery, by sheer, dumb luck of being online at 4am and a crafter friend lending me the last gil I needed. Though yearning for a higher item cap, this was the one Medium I was happy staying in.
Ofc I didn't like the looming threat of demolition, but I found solace in that my money at least went to supporting one of my favorite games.

Without getting too personal, I've been dealing with on some very rough irl circumstances this year due to health issues, but made sure to keep an eye out for any demolition warnings. Thursday I finally had time to breathe, and logged in to check on my house. First thing I see is my house gone, and plot up for lottery. I checked my email in a panic, and found every single warning in my spam folder. I was 5 days late, and I didn't know the warnings were in my spam because I've been so damn diligent about keeping this house, I've never realized any warnings would be sent to my spam folder. In a last plea I contacted support and explained the situation, but there was nothing they could do. I was advised to give feedback on the forum about this, but it took a while for the forum to register that I've logged into xiv; so in the meantime I've spent the past couple days crying while trying to salvage as many of my items as I can.

I was too upset to do the math while scrambling to reclaim items(the npc only showing 240 items at a time didn't help either), but by the time I had filled every storage I had access to there was still over 200 items left on the reclamations npc. I wouldn't be surprised if I had well over 500 pieces in there. If it weren't for my extremely kind FC I'd have no way to keep the majority of my items.

It feels stupid to cry about a video game home, but I poured so much time and love into that home. The furniture/gil invested mean nothing to me compared to the sentimental value. I have so many memories and screenshots; The earliest I could find of it was from November 2019. I've had it longer than my current pc. I cared for it through the entirety of the covid pandemic. I have two nephews that are younger than that house was. As I picked up my items, there wasn't a single piece of furniture I didn't know where it used to be. I don't even have any screenshots of my recent edits to look at.

I can't even join the lottery for my old plot; the ward has been FCs only for a long time... I don't even know if I even want to try and get a house again rn. Losing years worth of work really hurts when you're passionate about it...

There has to be a better way to do this... Now more than ever I just wish there was some permanent housing option so that everyone has a place to call their own and decorate, without worrying about losing it.

Not going to happen, they arnt going to make another system to sidestep a pre-existing system that allows you to sidesteps the rules of the first system while leaving the group within the first system to deal with the rules the second one is sidestepping.

If the sentimental value means so much rebuilt it. Rather then tossing it all away in a fit of rage start here.

Lottery is tomorrow, you can cry, gripe and mope. Or you can get back on the horse.

    Thanks, I appreciate it. I doubt I'll get that plot again though; It's one of those plots that basically everybody wants. I didn't want to mention which before the plot was sold off to a new owner(cause that plot is already hard enough to get as it is, didn't want to make the lottery even worse for the participants), but it was Plot 11 in Lavender Beds. So I'd have to get crazy lucky again in order to get it... and I'm not known to have the best of luck ^^;
Regardless, I appreciate the sentiment, stranger. Hope you're having a nice day.

Tbh I wasn't expecting comments; I apologise if it seemed like I was giving up on housing altogether; It's hard to write well when you're in your feelings, yknow? I'm not sure if I want a new plot yet, but I have an apartment+FC room I can decorate. And I have, mostly to clear storage, but still. I'll be fine. I know I'll be fine. That doesn't mean the hurt didn't happen. I can rebuild the build(albeit some of the glitches will be irritating to replicate, but they're doable). But the plot itself was sentimental to me, and pretty much impossible to get back, since it's so sought after.
It's healthy to let yourself mourn. Right now I'm sad about losing something I've loved and kept for over half a decade cuz of circumstances outside of my control. It's pretty human to be upset about that kind of thing, no?

I was advised by customer support to share this experience on the forum, so I did. I had to cut out a lot due to the 3000 limit + English is my second language + feelings can be hard to express through text when you're going through it, so again I'm sorry if the wording came across as me griping.
I'll try and summarise the main issue I've always had with housing:
If you have a creative feature in a video game with a monthly subscription, that not only has a huge scarcity problem, but also your players that have managed to obtain said feature face the risk of losing the feature(including their all their work/gil/furniture invested) if they're unable to login or keep their subscription for an extended period of time, there's a problem with the feature. We currently have a harsh and strict placeholder system put in place by the technical and physical limitations on the DCs, but that doesn't mean the issue should be overlooked. XIV strikes me as a game that wishes to respect their player's investment and time, so I don't think evicting players is the dev team's final vision for housing in xiv; game developers tend to want their players' experience to be positive.

I believe the system is flawed, I know I'm not alone in that opinion, and I'm also aware the devs are trying to figure it out(can't say I envy that). I was directed to the forum, so I made a post. Like I said I just wish there was some sort of permanent housing instance(like on the island sanctuary), so that people don't have to end up in a situation similar to mine; Suddenly losing years worth of creative investment due to "insert circumstance here", and then having to sort through literally hundreds of items with not nearly enough storage. I'm lucky enough to have an FC full of friends, others might not have that privilege.

I'm still dealing with health issues, so I don't really have the resources for further discussions on an issue I'm sure have been talked about plenty on here, but I hope this clears things up somewhat. Wishing you well, stranger.

Sorry that you lost your house.I get it, it sucks. ButGiven it's a limited supply , and there isn't enough plots (not housing) the system being the way it is requires us all to carry a bit of the burden to make the system fair for everyone. So that ALl players have a fair and equal shot at a plot of their choosing. It is unfortunately for some fairness at its most brutal... Because the rules apply equally to everyone. And the need to be at fair for everyone needs to be absolute , to the point where you have to sometimes need to point at the sign , that says , "no exceptions" and stand by that.

I get you on your feelings right now.But let the moment pass and jump back in. Take that feelings that you have for the old plot and make something new with what you can get now, a reimaginging if you will. Creativity isn't determined by the plot size , but what you do and what you feel with what you have. And you carry that sentiment with you that the plot demo cant take from you.

Let the feeling pass and then use the feeling to make something new, it won't bring back the house, but you'll bring the houses essence with you.

    Do feel better however.

Sorry for your loss and I hope you start feeling better soon.
Unfortunately, there probably isn’t a quick fix for this.
Would you be open to a suggestion?
You might consider getting a ROG Ally and installing FF14 on it.
    Here’s what it looks like:

That's brutal, I feel you. I've kept my houses for years and I'd be gutted if something stopped me logging in to use them. In a perfect world we could just keep the plot permanently without needing to do the upkeep but with supply being limited it makes sense how things are currently. I have the same plot as you, I managed to snag it on one of the new EU servers when they dropped. I'll keep fingers crossed another opens up, the game is pretty quiet these days and a lot of spots have been popping up.
I got my first large in 2019, I think my first plot ever was also 2019. I still have that mansion and I can relate on the feelings that go into the home you make, this mansion is not the best decorated on the inside.. but it was put together with the help of friends and I would never want to lose it.

Best wishes for your health, and while that plot is gone you still have the memories and can rebuild new ones in a new spot! As another person has mentioned you could try popping ffxiv on a handheld if you are finding yourself in hospital a lot, something to do while you're there.
