Housing Interior vs. Exterior

Right now we have all these nice exteriors that we can choose for our houses. I also understand that Square is working on the whole resizing of the interior thing but why cant we change the layout of the interior. I have a small house and instead of just having the one room and a basement, why cant we change the actual floor plan of the house? Like this could be changed when you choose a different exterior. The floor plan could make actually match the shape of the exterior house. I have the cute cottage house and I have a backdoor on my house but its not usable. Why is it there?

There's a lot we don't know about the housing code. It may not be possible to add more than one entrance into a house without them scrapping the current housing and rebuilding the system from scratch.

But I would also like it if they would add more interior layouts (and wall partitions that are a thickness appropriate to a interior house wall instead of a fortress exterior wall). Even better would be if they could give players an item to place in the interior that would set the entry point - maybe I want the basement to be the entrance instead of the ground floor. RIFT had that available in its housing.

We already put up walls and doors inside. It might mean devoting more of the item limit to those things but I suspect most of us are used to that already.
