    Character progress reseting settings lost

I’m having a recurring issue where after patches or hotfixes, my account seems to lose progress, my UI settings reset, and I sometimes get an error saying “unable to create character config files.” When this happens, I can’t log into my character.

I’ve even had old achievements pop again as if my progress rolled back. It eventually fixes itself, but it’s very inconvenient. I often have to restart the game multiple times or reinstall to get things back.
Today, I logged out briefly and came back to find my settings reset, my paladin gear missing, and weeks of progress gone. It feels like the game is reverting to an earlier state.

Since this has happened more than once, I wanted to report it as a possible Xbox bug in case others are experiencing the same issue.

I can’t figure out if it’s related directly to patches but it is extremely inconvenient.

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We appreciate you raising this concern with us, and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We understand that you are experiencing issues with your character losing its progress and items, as well as having trouble logging in. Please try the troubleshooting steps provided below to see if the issue can be resolved.

We would suggest that you first be sure the system is updated. In order to ensure your console is up to date, you would need to perform the following:
Select "Profile & Systems", go to "Settings", then "System", and find Updates.

Once you have checked the system has been updated, we would then suggest that you restart your network devices. Please turn off the power on your router and/or modem for 30 minutes to an hour. This should help clear any unnecessary data cached on the equipment which will possibly allow a smoother connection.

Next, we would suggest that you update your firmware for your router/modem if an update is necessary. If the firmware is outdated, your equipment may not function properly. Please update the firmware before trying to update the game again. You can refer to your device's help manual when updating firmware. Even if your firmware is up to date, reinstalling it may help resolve the situation.

We would also suggest that you check the security services of your internet provider. Security services may be included as part of your internet provider service plan. Please ensure that these security services permit online gaming. Additionally, you can temporarily remove routers and/or hubs to diagnose the issue. This may change your connection to a broadband connection. Please consult with your provider for connection settings.

If the suggestions provided above do not resolve the issue, then there is a communication error. (Not the same as a connection error.) Check the security settings (Such as SPI) on your router. Also, please forward the ports used for the game. The ports are listed below:

    ▼UDP
    55296~55551

    ▼TCP
    80, 8080, 443,55296~55551

*This can be done by visiting www.portforward.com, locate your specific Router/Modem Brand and Model Number from the 'List of Routers', and you will find a step-by-step guide on how to access your ports.

If you have properly configured your router, and you are still experiencing these issues, our next suggestion is to bypass the router, and connect your console directly to your modem. Please ensure that you power down both the modem and the console for at least five minutes before attempting to connect to FINAL FANTASY XIV.

We would also suggest that you reinstall FINAL FANTASY XIV Online this could also help to resolve the issue. If you continue to receive these same errors when you are connected directly to the modem, then the problem lies with your ISP. We would recommend contacting your provider and advising them that one or more of the ports previously provided to you are being blocked or filtered, and that you do need access on these ports.

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out by posting on the FFXIV Technical Support forums, or by contacting our customer support through the link below, as we will now be closing this thread.
