Gunner, Yuna's default Dressphere in X-2, it would still give a FFX connection if they want that for some reason, give us a proper gun Job, so on.
I know, but it hasn't been since the 5.0 rework and by now is so far removed from the original Machinist that we might as well create an entirely new gun job.
Actually, considering they deleted almost every mechanic almost 7 years ago we could just take Heavensward Machinist as it was, tweak it a bit, and release it as Gunslinger...and few people would even notice that it's not new.
I think the main issue was Bard. Machinist was at least designed around cast bars from the ground up, but Bard was shoehorned into it and everyone that played the job in ARR absolutely hated caster Bard.And HW MCH was a gunner with two turrets you could set up with a slower "sniper mode" adding short cast bars for increased damage with the original form of guass barrel. It was absolutely our gun job, but the failure of the caster mode put on it and Bard forced a redesign and Machinist has pretty much entirely drifted away from guns.
You can see the flipside in Stormblood where they reversed that decision again and Bard was one of the most fun jobs, while Machinist became a barely functional mess.
