Well i agree with Shiyo, but well theres a Major leap in difficulty if you select 4 star & try Duo that.

They really should balance the difficulty option a tiny bit better than it currently offers.

It's no wonder new players might pick 3-4 star and get their ass whooped & then lowers
it to 1 & completly miss out the great SP they could have gotten at 3 star.

Advice to new players, Trial & error is your friend and dont be afraid to get you ass whooped by a Wharf Rat.
Get back up & spank that bad boy!

You also have to remember SP is capped to +10 your rank or whatever, so making something more difficult on purpose doesn't even increase the SP you gain. The "capped" mobs difficulty for max SP are actually REALLY weak mobs that require no thought or skill to even kill. It's a really horrible system. :/
