Got most of my comms as dps actually. My guess is it was the standout glam and a "too much time on their hands" custom emote sequence at the start of a run that was enough, apparently. Stir in a little silliness or cordiality if the moment presents itself in chat and yup, set. Didn't need to go imposing myself as a determined VIP or artificially enhancing the likelihood of comms by standing around for longer or anything. Just sorta happens.

Seeing how I don't really pve much if at all right now, if I hand out comms it'll be in pvp, and it'll be to someone who did strikingly sensible teamy stuff impartially i.e. not just their friend circle. That is rather the rarity. Win or lose.

True, the role one plays is the least important part. Glams, portraits, and general attitude impact it more.
Heck I've gotten more comms just being the last person to leave than saving an entire run.

I get more comms on healer, but I get them regularly on all roles. A good glam and portrait help, but also just play your role well and be personable and interesting in the duty. I always start with a “Hello!” in party chat (PS player, I actually have a macro for it because it’s hard for me to type), I’ll emote at bosses before combat sometimes, I heal and rez folks promptly on healer or take the time to scrape the healer off the floor with a Phoenix Down where applicable … just be the kind of person people like to have around and the commendations will come.

Aight well I'm giving up, I guess the only solution Square Enix could ever design a system around supporting is "Play Healer and put her in a skimpy outfit", get all the Comm's Fine so be it, let it stay broken for all I care at this point O.o time to move on. In any case I'm glad at least some of you aren't having the same difficulties I am, maybe it's server related or something. I have Glams and Portraits set up on every job and they're good, at least I think they are, unique and engaging (though not just all of them sitting in a bikini like I'm sure some would prefer) :/ oh well. Just another broken thing in this game I guess.

I mean, I mentioned my main 2 jobs are tank and DPS along with the fact I turned off all portraits and never set mine either lol. There's just higher chance of getting more comms on healer for whatever reasons, but you can still get the 1.5k as I only started healing in StB and it's my least played role in 2026 but I have 2k comms anyway so exceptions exist. Also, to be a mentor, you need to max one of each role, so you'd have to play healer at some point unless you do FL-spam to level them all along with the job quests, eventually.

So lemme get this straight, you're saying it should take 6+ years to get this achieve? (since StB came out in 2019) or perhaps 5 years if you started mid-way. That's not really any better, that's actually the issue I was having, it shouldn't be that long to begin with. Also I direct you to look to the left and see WHM lv100 O.o it was my first job actually. I did my time as healer, I have no desire to do more at least not right now.

The issue here is that, even if you consider those things as the system being broken, which it's not, you run into the issue of, how to fix it? what are you asking for? for the game to prevent people from giving commendations to Healers or if they are wearing specific glam pieces that are arbitrarily deemed "unworthy"? for YoshiP to put out an official statement begging for people to be measured with their commendations? the former would be unhinged and draconian, the latter would be promptly ignored.

The fact is that there is an, and this is very important, entirely player-defined meta around commendations, we are telling you what it is, and to repeat:

    - Play Healer.
    - Be the last to leave instance.
    - Have a nice outfit and portrait. I want to make clear, nice doesn't mean skimpy, you can check my Lodestone to see how I am dressed and I always dress showing similar amounts of skin.

If you are still unwilling to play into it, then it's honestly on you.

You're starting to become hyperbolic, stretching arguments into absurdity for effect but that's a fallacy and sort of diminishes your arguments further. Regardless, I'll repeat (quote in-fact), I already offered what I felt were a few reasonable solutions, one of them becoming more and more of an ideal approach in my opinion (bolded below)

    - Give incentive for Comm'ing like adding a currency (as I mentioned earlier), or maybe an outgoing Comm achievement chain

    - Probably other solutions I haven't thought of
I find myself wondering more and more why we're limited to one Comm at all, tons and tons of other games let people Comm everyone for this exact reason, it negates the issue of one player type or archetype becoming the meta while the rest suffer. I can play dungeons perfectly well, have nice pretty glams set up and all that mess, doesn't count for anything. I'm sorry people but anyone saying "go in there and be someone others like to be around" ... yea that's all fine and good if you're actually talking to people, interacting, but more often than ever dungeon runs are silent, just a get-in >> kill stuff >> get out. This is especially true of the roulettes, maybe it's because some of y'all are more used to the heavier content, savages, party-finder stuff. I'm here to say that's just not how it is doing standard duties, the most you'll ever see is a macro'd up "Hi" at the start and "GGTY" at the end, big deal that's not interaction that's just habit.

Anyway it's fine, that's the meta as you call it, it's wrong, it's broken, it's not how things should be but hey, players decided it would be that way and so players have to live with their poor choices now. It doesn't mean SE can't do anything to fix it and no I'm not suggesting the big guy go and beg people to stop Comm'ing the healers, please let's keep things rational at least

Ability to comm everyone quickly turns to 'it is expected to comm everyone' quickly turns to 'denying a comm to the person who made the most negative impression on me' rather than 'giving a comm to the person who made the most positive impression on me'. Then people will be like, 'I didn't get a comm, people hate me' rather than 'I didn't get a comm, no big deal, there's only so many to go around' or 'I did get a comm, someone recognized I did something useful or they just liked my leather pants'.

It would also negate the nice warm fuzzies we can collectively give a player when everyone recognizes that they are the reason we cleared the fight and giving them seven comms.

That's why I think we can't comm everyone. Keeps it positive.
