    Dropped the ball with Oizys

I think Squenix really dropped the ball with the new cosmic exploration zone of Oizys. The planet had beautiful rings but the developers were too lazy to change the atmospheric environment so we’re stuck looking at the same stuff we see in Etheirys. Reason that we can’t see the rings? “Thick atmosphere.” Crazy how I can see the stars at night but not the rings then.

Where is the fantasy aspect of Final Fantasy? Looking at the same sky in pretty much every zone is getting really old.

Did you miss the giant gravitic orb that's ripping the entire planet to pieces while somehow keeping it in stasis*? What about the conspicuously patterned marble-like spheres that dot the landscape, with innards implying intelligent construction without implying reason or purpose to their creation? The weird corkscrew and column stones that dot the landscape without even a clear idea if they're natural or artificial? All of this without mentioning that unlike Phaenna, this one outright is getting lore drop material, although we're too early to have much of a picture of things yet. The only thing that matters to you is really just 'I wanna see the rings'? I don't know you or the way you're thinking or feeling, but I kinda feel like you got caught up on your own expectation and then got disappointed you didn't get that, instead of looking at what you did get.

I get wanting the Space Exploration zones to go hard on weird planets, but frankly, I think Oizys is going pretty damn hard on this front. If I were to guess at the visual design angle, the reason that the sky's a bit bland this time is because the actual 'skyspace' is already weird, and they want you to look at the Planetary Obliteration Orb without being distracted by anything else.

(*If anything the entire point of Oizys is that they didn't drop the ball, and it turns out that ball is kinda causing some serious problems up there.)

Personally, my only complaint right now is 'why does this planet have Banjo-Kazooie music'. I like the song, I'm just confused.

All being equal, it is a bummer we can't see the rings from the surface. Bit of a cop-out. The star is otherwise really interesting.

Honestly think the devs are nailing coming up with and building out interesting alien environments. A rainbow glass planet with what appear to be plants and animals that frequently rains shards of glass and is actively volcanic? A desert planet that shows signs of colonization that is also being gravitationally ripped apart and has formations both large and small of its earth being pulled up into a gigantic, freshly forming satellite that we can literally see it's internally forming aether?

    Bruh this shit is cool.

The environments in the Cosmic Exploration have been very cool so far. Honestly, I applaud them for coming up with a creative reason as to why the rings aren't visible from the surface of Oizys.

Just wish the anthropology side content wasn't locked behind A-class missions, because I'm horrible at crafting. Even with a full set of melded Orange Scrip gear, I struggle with the basic A-Class missions and the EX ones are right out!

It’s not a “creative reason”, it’s a “the reason sorta sounds plausible if you have zero idea how anything works”

Nothing in cosmic implies they attempt to terraform the planet, so the planet must be naturally breathable, to have an atmosphere of naturally breathable air so thick it blocks planetary rings at night from being seen the atmosphere would have to be so thick you’d be crushed flat standing on the surface of the planet from the pressure of the atmosphere and stapled to the ground by the mammoth gravity needed to hold the atmosphere to the planet

The music is quite a "choice". Think maybe they wanted to just try something different with each zone. I liked the last zone's much more. I'm getting some Xenoblade vibes with the planet's art direction for sure, it's a shame it's limited to DoH/DoL. Has me thinking we'll get an alien themed expansion at some point. We came a little close with Endwalker with us being on the moon and all.

For what it's worth, the 'anthropology side content' isn't actually lore drops, they're basically a mashup of the Accursed Hoard from deep dungeons and treasure maps. I misunderstood too, but they're mostly just a fun alternative way to get old drops, I think mostly from Ishgardian Restoration.

I suspect there's gonna be more lore drops once progress is done and we unlock some quests. But until then, Una'to has some lore if you talk to him, and it's worth checking with Dylise any time you see her because she's sometimes got stuff to say, too.

That actually sounds like the reason they gave is pretty close when you account for the fact the game isn't hard sci-fi. Not being able to see planetary rings would require a thick atmophere and screwy, difficult gravity? Yeah, the Planetary Obliteration Orb probably has something to do with that.

We're in a universe where you can summon a false mockery of your god if you think too hard about it. The fact they gave an explanation for something like this is far more important than it checking out scientifically--and the fact that their technobabble actually does kinda line up is frankly a bonus. It's like how the reason Alexander is nonviable to build in-universe is also the reason mecha don't make sense to build in real life; that wasn't necessary, but it is neat!

I finally overcame my fear of the A-rank missions (the EX ones are still right out) in pursuit of the shiny tools but... yeah, very disappointing they took what should be one of the biggest lore sources for the planet (artifacts from a dead civilization on an alien planet!) and turned it into a scavenger hunt gacha. The rewards... seem to be a scattershot of old minions, Ishgardian Restoration items, and housing junk; the rare Gold artifacts can give you the face mount and are the source for the new emote (Stomp) on top of old hairstyles and Restoration mounts. (And I had a crapload to do at once because I thought you had to hit the cap to do the thing, but they're just 250 bits per...) At least the NPCs at the landmarks do provide some interesting information about them that lead to theories.

Also I will have to recant my statement about Oizys's ring system; you can still see the stars at night, so whatever the explanation you should still be able to see the rings as well. Maybe Namingway will provide an explanation on the tour once the planet's fully developed, but right now I'm not buying it.
