I'm starting to get tired of Faux Hollows on my 25th week of it because of the RNG

I've only been playing FFXIV for some time now, but sunk a lot of hours into it. I was willing to try endgame content, but after a cafuffle with unsynced P8S a few months ago, I wasn't sure whether I'd enjoy it so I have avoided it. Until Faux Hollows (And Wondrous Tails). Where I'm just not having any fun at all. I'm only doing this for the mounts and glams.

My first unreal trial was Wreath of Snakes. And now it's Tsukoyomo's Pain, which itself is a little easier than Wreath of Snakes in areas, but still challenging. I have learning difficulties so it was a really steep learning curve for me, as was P8S. What's really frustrating me now though is the lackluster rewards from Faux Hollows. For the third week in a row and since the start of Tsukoyomi's Pain Unreal, it's beginning to feel like the Faux Hollows board is actually rigged or bugged? I've had only 3x(3x2) grids appear in each one, both times. Which has resulted in the first few adding +15 leaves, and the last ones ranging from 25-35. I'm not feeling there's a good trade off here. Especially given how treacherous the trial can be at times. I'm more prone to mistakes than other players and I blame myself for it a lot of the time, I'm no good at games to begin with.

Yet even Wondrous Tails is a pain to work with because it's also been many weeks of this too, with only a 3x two lines, and many one liners. This doesn't feel rewarding to me at all. In my opinion, I think Wondrous Tails needs a rework to be less RNG dependant. I also don't like how much of the endgame content here is catered towards grinding it up to 99x times (Happened to me once with an unsynced Extreme Trial in Endwalker with Endsinger)

I know this will probably get a lot of hate but I can't help myself at the moment because my mental health is taking a really big toll. To be honest I'm not sure aspects of the game like this are helping me. Some parts of it are way too grindy and dated. (ARR Relic Weapon grind for one example).

RNG used to be a major part of MMORPGs, and a lot worse than it is in this game. Arguably, you still have it with lootboxes in mobile MMORPGs. So as you mentioned, it still exists in areas such as the Relic Weapons.

To a certain extent, depending on the implementation, RNG is good, to make the experience different every time. I also don't mind things taking between 1 and 3 attempts. It's often used as a way to make you do the content multiple times though, because otherwise the developers put months of work into it for you to only do it once.

I'd personally prefer Extreme trials to only need 25 clears for the mount, because that's where I start to get burned out. But they have been reducing it to 50 most of the time in recent years, so that's a compromise.

My advice is to not expect Wondrous Tails to ever give you 3 lines. I've been playing for over 10 years and never had that. I've had 1 or 2 lines lots of times though. It's meant to be that if you win 3 lines, you get to make a lot of money on the market board.

    For Faux Hollows:
    1. It's easy to get +15 for the first clear, because there are only 2 locations that usually have 6 squares available and you press one right in the middle to see which direction it's in.
    2. In addition to the +15, the chances are very high of finding a +25 or +35 because you're just finding the 4 square ones. There is roughly an 80% chance you can get it.
    3. On the second clear, you're right that it may often just be +25 or +35. Finding the +100 can be hard (if it's even there).

To make finding them easier (particularly for the second clear), you can click this. There are fixed locations where they can appear depending on the grid.
