    Dungeons: Add Phoenix Down Drops

Hi, so players are still not acclimated to the new dungeon system allowing healers to be resurrected by Phoenix Down items.

There's a much greater need for Phoenix Downs than there are materia or other items. Sure you can sell materia, but we're literally drowning in it.

It seems to make sense that dungeons that can use Phoenix Down also drop Phoenix Down.

    Thoughts?

Drowning in materia? I can see that there's a lot on the market board, but some are drowning in debt because of how expensive they are for up-to-date crafting and gathering needs for BiS. You have to actually work for materia.

You can literally buy Phoenix Downs off NPCs just for Gil, and they do have a chance of dropping in Deep Dungeons from coffers, but it's not supplied enough to avoid buying them.

Battle materia =/= crafting/gathering materia. Do just a few things battle oriented, like dungeons, and you'll be swimming in battle materia. Heck do a little hunt train and be swimming in the clusters needed to trade for whichever battle XI or XII materia you want in a good amount. Not much work is needed for battle materia.

My battle materia gets turned in outside Black Brush Station, so I'm not 'swimming in it' and have a chance to get crafting/gathering materia.

That sounds like a you problem. I've personally never had issues spiritbonding for crafting and gathering materia... If I do, I have the means to get an ungodly amount of scrips to buy the materia needed by keeping the mats for certain collectables.... Like most crafter's should have... And for gathering, it's fairly quick to do a route along most timed nodes to get the spiritbond needed quite quickly... So quite literally wasting your battle materia like that is not very bright considering how easy spiribonding is when doing master recipes or timed nodes.

Edit: When I initially responded I thought you just didn't like the work for the hand/land materia, but I see the knowledge might not be there on how simple it is nowadays to get that materia. A lot quicker and more cost effective to do what was suggested, but keep burning your battle materia, at least you won't be swimming in it like us. To reiterate; spirit bonding on nodes for gathering has been significantly increased. You fully bond significantly faster gathering from timed nodes, even level 90 ones.

I'm well aware of how it works, thanks. I'm glad you assume that I'm an idiot though, it does wonders for credibility. I use everything available to me to get materia, and I have a retainer dedicated to it for pentamelding, but also for storing because I literally play every job there is and every crafter/gatherer there is. When I have to mess with the shit RNG of the pentameld game, yes it's a 'me problem' because I can burn though a lot of materia.

And, to be clear, I'm not against Phoenix Downs being dropped from the dungeons. I just think it's an overkill move, much like the combat materia that is hardly used.

    Dungeons don't drop crafter/gatherer materia.

I'm fine with them adding this but honestly it shouldn't be necessary. You can buy Phoenix Downs at a vendor, I myself carry a whole stack of them. The idea that in a party nobody would have any to resurrect a dead healer makes me lose a bit more faith in this community. I feel like adding this is going to just further cater to people not learning how to play the game which is part of why every job is just homogenized and braindead now. I dunno, it might seem like a drop in the bucket but even another inch down this slippery slope we've been rocketing down for years has me wary. At a certain point we need to stop handholding, you know?

I carry a bunch of them and sadly the healers always port back to the beginning instead of just waiting for a phoenix down.

The community hasn't learned (I should say healers haven't learned) that you can redeem yourself and we don't need to wipe.

People just don't seem to know.

This is where I believe SE should step in and teach. Those useless solo duties we do in the MSQ? Use one of those to teach stuff like Phoenix Downs and have an NPC bring you straight to the vendor. With how intrinsic the MSQ is to the experience of the game (functionally mandatory unless you buy a skip, which doesn't exist for current expacs) it continuously floors me that they SHOULD be using the MSQ as both a medium for storytelling and a tutorial vessel and yet refuse to do so. Have new important basic gameplay features players need to learn? Work it in. Have new mechanics you want to showcase in dungeons/raids/trials? Use the MSQ to preview them so people don't die in live fights as often and get discouraged. Etc etc...

I strongly believe individual job quests should come back for this same reason. If the job quests were tailored to making sure you can play your job properly and were required to progress the MSQ, we could justify more difficult yet rewarding rotations again AND the general skill level of the common player would improve.

But nope we can't do anything actually sensible like this. Budget too little to fund other projects, small indie company, etc. Go buy another mog station outfit and pass out more weird green energy drinks in the MSQ instead. That's the stuff this game really needs.
