Congested Worlds Question

So I'm trying to get my partner into ffxiv, alongside a few friends. Me and a couple other friends are already on leviathan but as of the most recent patch it became congested. I understand we can still easily play together on the same data center with world travel, but we were hoping to make a free company together as well alongside stuff like marriages.

How often do worlds like leviathan get moved off the congested status, or is it best for me and my friends to migrate to another primal world? Some of my friends really dont want to pay the fee to move servers and none of us want to go to dynamis. Should we just wait for the next patch or bite the bullet and move servers?

It could be one of the next patches or a one after that. So it could be 2 months, 4 months, 7 months, 9 months, etc. It simply depends on if Leviathan's actively logged in players reduces to below that of some other worlds around the time they evaluate it.

I'd recommend just joining on Primal since most the servers are open. it's easy to get around and yeah you could just pay for the leviathan transfer later, but that could be months or a year from now since their opening of worlds isn't consistent anymore.

There's no telling when Leviathan will open back up unfortunately, so somebody will end having to move regardless somehow (either you going to their Primal world now, or them moving to Leviathan later).

If the plan is to play and journey together though, starting up a new character to play with them might be a viable (and free) option for now, and then you can figure out who moves, if anyone, when Leviathan opens back up because you might just prefer your new alts and what you managed to accomplish with them by then.

Is anyone else having a hard time believing this is anything other than artificial congestion? The game isn’t popping off right now exactly and it’s been way more populated before…

I don’t know what logic their using to determine congestion but none these worlds are anywhere near capacity imo.

I’m skeptical about Aether even but primal? Please…

Our definition is different to the one SE is using. When we think congestion, we're probably thinking, "this place is getting too full to function correctly," while their definition is more along the lines of, "Aether and Crystal's populations are wildly out of balance with Primal and Dynamis's." So, relatively speaking, Aether and Crystal are congested, but in absolute terms, there's still plenty of room on all of the DCs. SE wants to even up the populations, and the harshest method they have to do so is to lock down Aether and Crystal. Then within Primal, Leviathan and Behemoth are overpopulated compared to the rest.

ETA: As far as I'm aware, the term has always been relative. When I started playing, "congested" meant, "this server is experiencing a lot of traffic right now, come back and try to make a new character at 3AM on a workday," which is a perfectly reasonable meaning for congested. It's just that now, the traffic controllers are saying the congestion isn't letting up for months, go make a character where there's less traffic.
