Anyone else feel Kriles dialouge this patch was really weird?

Specifically when she Lumull if the golden gate to the milala homeland opened would he return. I recontextualized this in my head thought what if she asked me if a portal opened to my ancestral homeland of africa would i? It just felt like such a forced sentiment and a bizzare question to ask from a smart member of the studium.

Why would you assume anyone born in this highly advanced society would agree to throw everything away to live on alo alo island after i stepped on all the flowers and poisoned the water supply. Not to mention the island is now infested with monsters.

Krile being conflicted to leave or stay may have felt more natural if she lived in treno longer or had a romantic interest in lumull.

Seeing as Lumull is her cousin, I’d hope not! lol

Her asking Evaney that makes sense because the Milalla all know that they came from another world, and would be familiar with the Speaker’s mission to find a way back home, as the aunt later confirms. I don’t think it’s odd, knowing that, to ask someone if they would pursue the chance to return to their original home world, or if they’d prefer to stay where they are. They’ve carried that lore for generations… they all know the Speaker’s poem by heart.

As for Krile’s personal conflict, it was more about finding the people she would’ve been with had she not been sent through the portal, and then learning on top of that, that some of them are actually family members. She’s an adopted child who just recently learned of her origins, and is feeling torn between the land of her birth and the land she has lived in her whole life. So she’s asking people in a similar situation, with a choice of two worlds, what they would do, relating that choice to the choice she now finds herself facing.

I blame part of that on DT MSQ Main.

I think Krile was meant to be conflicted about where she belonged--that may sound nonsensical--but learning she wasn't a native inhabitant to the Source is likely to put her through some degree of shock. It's natural to second guess oneself during such a state, and seeing "her people" persevering on the Ninth, and the knowledge that she can help them are all reasons for her to feel conflicted.

The problem is because Krile was so neglected in DT main that the MSQ does nothing to set up or portray Krile's emotions to where 7.4's story would be a culmination of that, so they kind of had to do it all in one go--and unfortunately one of the best things to add realism is time.

I still like 7.4's story and think it was very good, but man, the more DT post goes on the more I hate most of DT main for wasting so much time doing almost nothing.

I think maybe you're projecting your feelings of what would be a much more loaded question in real life on to the game.

There's not really much equivalence between the two, either. They were forced to flee their entire world, in which everything about their history and culture and people has been taken over by ice and for the most part presumably lost. It's more like asking someone who fled Earth to go Mars in the event of a disaster if they'd want go back, I wouldn't call it weird.

No, I did not find it strange at all. In fact, I was curious myself.

Let's recontextualize it the opposite way. The source has a lot of advanced technology in certain regions as well. Meanwhile, their homeland of Treno is on the edge of extinction - with the rest of the world consumed in lightning and Alexandria gone. It's not exactly great living on the brink of extinction.
Krile being conflicted to leave or stay may have felt more natural if she lived in treno longer or had a romantic interest in lumull.
There are multiple layers to this, some of which you may understand and some which you may not.

The first is just that when you meet people, if you're like me, you bond with them very fast and then don't want to leave them or the place behind. Especially if it's somewhere cozy. Some examples are themeparks, holiday destinations, or for me, cinemas. Do I want to leave these places or for the experience end? Probably not. But it is time-limited by its nature, as is Krile's, because we were only visiting Treno as a business trip.

Same when I meet people - sometimes I want to keep talking to them, but it's not usually going to go like that because we all have our established routines or commitments that we go back to and so we'll probably never talk again. Because of that I can also understand Krile's perspective here.

The next layer is loyalty. Realizing she is meant to be in Treno and would be in Treno were it not for her being hunted down and delivered to the Source, and that she is part of an important family line, is a lot of weight that makes a person think maybe they are abandoning their true home.

Another layer is the emotional side of it. Meeting relatives - family, that are shedding tears over seeing her, and then just leaving like they are nothing to her, would feel wrong. Especially when the family who adopted her were gone and her real parents were gone.

There are so many layers to it. But if it were me, I wouldn't see it as a problem because I can literally just go back and visit Treno occasionally. So of course, that is what she plans to do. It's just one of those things where, as an external observer, you can see sense (that she can just revisit Treno whenever and does not have to choose), but she sees it as choosing one or the other permanently because emotion is clouding her judgement. Happens sometimes where you have to talk sense into people like that.

It was absolutely an issue of base DT MSQ never bringing it up as "not feeling like she belonged anywhere" is a massive part of Krile's entire character that just wasn't brought up in game often enough.

    She's adopted.
She has a unique form of the Echo that made it really hard for her to be around people.
Her "original" home was nuked when the Isle of Val was destroyed.
She has survivor's guilt from that event.
Her entire order is in shambles, too.
She was useless during the events of Ultima Thule despite being a fighter, after having already been too weak to help in most cases, and swapped to a Pictomancer to try to help more.

But then her only development in that story in Dawntrail was that she finds out her parents are long dead and she's from a reflection.

So her landing in her hometown and seeing how her actual tribe struggles hard but welcomed her lovingly, and that her remaining bio family is alive and thrilled to see her, and she's suddenly not sure if she should stay and help or just leave when the Students are still picking themselves back up?

It's not actually a weird turn for her, it's just so spread out from ARR to now that it feels strange.

I didn't really mind that part of the story at all because mainly got what they were going for with it, but I do feel it didn't hit as hard as it clearly was meant to. As others have said part of it is because they didn't focus on Krile enough throughout the DT MSQ to this point, but I also feel it's a bit of an issue with story placement in this patch alone. Had the scene with Krile feeling conflicted about leaving happened after she received the information about her family, her inherited role, their legacy, etc. it would have had more of the intended impact even if she didn't get the focus she deserved in the previous MSQ. Instead it was structured with her feeling she didn't want to leave, coming to terms with that, being given legitimate actual reasons why she might not want to leave, and then sort of being like "Well, cool, but I'm good." To me it was less the story beats themselves and more how they were arranged.

The main DT MSQ did damage equal to what Shadowlands did for WoW

It's still trying to recover even patches later.
