"Parser shouldn't be allowed" lol... As soon as numbers are visible and written anywhere (log, screen etc.) then you can parse. Do you know what parsing mean? Are you aware that it can be done with a piece of paper and a pen?

I'd like to know how SE will prevents me to use a paper and a pen to calculate my average damage.

    Oh dear. You confuse wanting a game 'like' XI, and wanting XI. I'm not sure I'll be able to clearly express myself to you if it is hard to get that simple point across ; ;

If you can't be original don't try? That is a very sad and defeatist attitude. Everyone should continuously strive to try out new things. Be courageous to see what is the next boundary we can break. Or we could all go back to playing text adventure games?

You just have low expectations I think.
If the game still being alive and getting a full reboot is your definition of 'terrible', then what must you call games that actually shut down. Perhaps it is a language barrier with taru-speak. There are different grades of success. It is not just 'terrible' or 'OMG AWESOME'.

its not only about a dmg metre.. and your writing doesnt make you more sympathetic or intelligent, seriously. you dont have to blame people to have opinions about mods in an online game.

"knowledge of MMorpgs is that low" oh boo*.. you are such a pro gamer. at least im not refering to a casual game like WoW all the time and crying for "features" like addons, because you are unable to play without them or you want to have that exact playstyle which you had in WoW.
this is final fantasy and not WoW. thank you.

really these aggressive comments speak for these "so-pro-called wow community" which uses mods/addons and what the heck ever. i mean just go ahead. trust me, i played lots of MMorpgs and survived without addons. now you are going to come along and tell me that i dont need to use these addons.

but on the other side it gives you advantages in comparison to other players who dont use those "mods". and thats a fact. it seems that you want to have these "advantages" because you call yourself a "programer"

    *sigh... really.. its so sad.
im wondering how the hell someone ever could beat the final bosses in other final fantasys without mods and user interface addons.

at least its an online game, so it should be exactly the same for all players and not for 2-3 peops who want manipulate/to mod the game. its ok when people want to change the interfaces appearance.. but do we need really "extra functions" which havent been intended from the developers?
the question is what is legal and what should not be allowed to use?
this is not an offline rpg like skyrim, where i dont care how many mods and cheats a player uses. here you play with and against other players.

well im out of this "discussion". use your addons/mods/cheats what the heck ever, and be happy.

This game is getting a full reboot because it is named Final Fantasy and is made by Square Enix. If it wasn't SE but instead a company that was relying on this very project alone to make money, the game would have been shut down and lot of people would have been fired. Like some MMOs sadly failed recently. You cannot feed 300+ DEVs and a several multiregional teams with no income at all.

Instead it's SE, they have money coming from other projects (and not only games as well), so they can afford themselves to simply "change" the DEV team and continue sinking money into the project in order to make the project worthwhile but and also, save what's more important above everything else, the Final Fantasy brand.

As the time of release, the game was terrible. It improved now yes. But we were talking about the game at release timing. And if we are still here, it's because of that full reboot being announced. There wouldn't be as many players here if SE would simply had said "deal with it, we're not making a new game and keeping it that way".

I think you literally do not understand what it means to allow modding and to open up a game's API. If they expose some ofthe API, then the people using it aren't cheating and they're using things that the developers intended for the people to use.

But where does it get to the point where it becomes prohibitive for PS3 players to play the game? I take it they can't add mods and parsers from their system.

Im sure SE will approve / disapprove w/e addons/mods the community can
come up with before allowing anyone to apply these to their game.

Otherwise everyone would more or less use a craft/gathering bot 100% of the time.

Then SE needs to keep up the pace with addon developers and update their default/PS3 UI to make up for the missing features that PC addons give.

Not that this scenario would happen anyway, because FFXI was fine on the PS2 despite the illegal bots and mods that were available on the PC; and because the exposed API will not let you do anything that isn't doable with the default UI.

And even among Blizzard's titles, what other games allow you access to UI APIs for standard customization? Why is D3 lacking a way to allow the same interface customization that WoW does? Hmmm?

What people want in a UI are three things...
    • Effecient to use and work with
    • Easy to learn (intuitive)
    • More Satisfying to use

If an interface does well with all three of these, you quickly find that people don't bother to personalize it because they see no need. But when one or two of these are lacking, well that's when you start seeing people demand "I wanna customize my interface with all this stuff that sounds real cool if I don't think about it."
You basically repeated what I said in your first sentence. "There's a reason why WoW has such a high reputation when it comes to user interface (because it's extremely flexible and personalizable, and people like that)." Except, my overarching message was that you're more likely to get the most satisfying UI when the UI is as customizable as possible.

On top of that, even when I have my UI set up to show everything that I want it to show, sometimes I like to switch the look up just for kicks. I personally find that to be extremely satisfying. The notion that people like different things, and even a single person over time might like different things, is already a pillar of justification for UI customization.

On the other hand, your justification seems to be that, in your opinion, you shouldn't have to put your own time into customization, so it's a "very stupid idea." At face value that's a very weak argument, first because it's unrealistic to expect that absolutely everyone is satisfiable by a single dev team, and secondly because even if it existed it wouldn't harm you in any way to not use the feature. What do I think appropriate reasons against it might be? 1) it might take more time than they think is worthwhile, and 2) they might have some artistic notion of game experience that they're trying to protect, and even 3) they might think it's unfair ground for PS3 players if PC players get to go crazy.

As for why D3 is lacking customization, D3 was rushed and is generally considered by most of the player base to be a bad game with a terrible UI. However, let me turn the question back to you: how does the absence of customization support that "customization is very stupid?" Perhaps I'm not the one who isn't thinking things through?
