i am coming from DAOC (Dark Age of Camelot) which is a hardcore PvP game, there was no dmg meter at all, and people knew how they maxed out their chars till perfection (with armor templates they created on their own) and to reach for example the casting speed cap for mages. (which was not that easy). it didnt need dmg di**-o-meters.
    trust me
I played DAoC for 6+ year and damage meters weren't needed because PvE encounters did not required that. There was no enrage timer for most of NMs, no DPS race. It was more like toss as many people (or Animist Mushroom) as you can on NMs in order to defeat them.

On PvP, damage were stable and easily calculable, damage formula were super easy for mages, applying resistance as well. You would just see "You deal 450 (-150) damage".

Casting speed cap were easy to reach... I was reaching it even while not having any points put in DEX at character creation. It's just a complete different game anyway, on RvR, you don't care about your pure DPS, it's all about assist and strategy (using skills at the right time). Positioning as a team as well.

When you had a Mana Enchanter debuffing heat and a Light Mentalist nuking right after, most of targets would die in 3 hits, the hell I need a parser for that...

Join a LS that don't care then . That's how MMO works. Hardcore raiding guilds will always try and min/max everything. Just find a raiding environment that suit you.

Damage meters are useful on encounters with DPS checks.

I would like a Custom UI interface (if the default doesn't support it) such that I can move all my chat boxes and logs to another window/screen. Then I would like to move my menus to another screen as well. That way I can keep my screen completely free of anything that gets between my eyes and the environment that I am running through.

I come to SE for its beautiful visuals and music. I'm not going to let anything get in my way.

I would also like a 'custom UI' for interacting with my Retainers/Inventory/etc. if the default one does not let me manage it in a way that I feel comfortable managing it.

I do not care about constantly seeing damage meters. I use a parser if I want to understand how a stat/skill works. But once I learned, the rest is immaterial.

I do hope the community does not become such that they 'require' you to use a specific Custom UI or won't want to play with you. For example, if they say: You must use the stat-o-meters because we talk about % numbers for everything.

Some sort of Auction House Add On where I can check prices without being in a city. Being notified when my crap sells would be cool too.

Oh heres one that I would like... A unitframe addon that makes the UI look like an old school FF game. The bars, text, windows etc. Just for lulz.

Add on or customized UI's? I really don't care for customized UI's and add ons are too early to discuss about them, we need to see 2.0 to find out what might be missing that we really need.

Can't be that hard. The text just requires finding the typeface for the game on the web. The window colors are practically done for us, just needs that white/grey outline. Replacing all the bars I think would be the hardest. Needs to look retro but not look like shit at the same time. lol

Also thats the exact same FF I had pictured in my head.

Thats kinda cool. Gave me an idea for a just for fun add-on. Kinda just a window that shows your party members and any enemies your party is engauged with in a view like this. The background can change based on area, the battler sprites change based on race and class, the enemies are what ever your fighting, and it shows skills being used in action all in in 8-bit style. although all that live action would be kinda a clusterf**k on a small window, but it be cool to observe.

Hehe could even take it a step further and replace the Job icons with the Job Sprites from FFV.
