Ever heard the word customization? Why would I care about what others do with their own UI as long as it doesn't affect me?

well for me its frightening enough to see that abiously many people dont care about atmosphere and roleplaying than on dmg numbers. but you are right, everyone can does what he wants to.
well first, its not anyone its just you and many others. secondly i havent played with that many guys who used parsers in the background.. happily.
and i was asking myself.. well we succeded in that battle.. am i a better player next time when i know how much damage i did in a total? ;XD

i am able to see for example that there is better equipment on the market available than artifact stuff or what the heck ever..i dont need a parser for that..
it goes like this: better equipment -> the more damage you do. i dont know if you experience this, too.
i am coming from DAOC (Dark Age of Camelot) which is a hardcore PvP game, there was no dmg meter at all, and people knew how they maxed out their chars till perfection (with armor templates they created on their own) and to reach for example the casting speed cap for mages. (which was not that easy). it didnt need dmg di**-o-meters.
trust me

I played DAoC for 6+ year and damage meters weren't needed because PvE encounters did not required that. There was no enrage timer for most of NMs, no DPS race. It was more like toss as many people (or Animist Mushroom) as you can on NMs in order to defeat them.
On PvP, damage were stable and easily calculable, damage formula were super easy for mages, applying resistance as well. You would just see "You deal 450 (-150) damage".
Casting speed cap were easy to reach... I was reaching it even while not having any points put in DEX at character creation. It's just a complete different game anyway, on RvR, you don't care about your pure DPS, it's all about assist and strategy (using skills at the right time). Positioning as a team as well.
When you had a Mana Enchanter debuffing heat and a Light Mentalist nuking right after, most of targets would die in 3 hits, the hell I need a parser for that...
Join a LS that don't care then. That's how MMO works. Hardcore raiding guilds will always try and min/max everything. Just find a raiding environment that suit you.
Damage meters are useful on encounters with DPS checks.

Why would it bother you if someone wants to use a damage meter? Raid leaders use it to determine the fire power of their team. Some people use it to measure self improvement as they progress further and some people use it to be competitive with their friends, such as myself. Being competitive is a part of life (sports comes to mind). It does not mean that numbers are all I see. I appreciate paying attention to the beautiful environment of the game, storyline, etc as well.
Is it possible that you're scarred from a bad experience in the past with elitist jerks who looked down on others (which is commonly found especially in World of Warcraft)?
I'd like to remind people that it's not the damage meter that makes players become elitist assholes... these players are elitist assholes to begin with, even without the damage meters.
Damage meters already exist as a third party program used in the background, so I have no doubt we'll see an in-game add-on in 2.0.

^ my wow ui (looked through my screens) the least amount of stuff on my screen the better. I try to play my games without all of that stuff that'll distract me from the actual game. I don't really plan on modding my UI, only moving the bars around to where I want them. I'm more of a purist, I don't like modding my games. Even minecraft I don't mod. I feel that if you can play the game with just what's provided to you then you're a better player.
Edit: Just thought about it. Not better then other people though.

This "minimallistic" style of UI can be done for FFXIV aswell in terms of design.
Not directed to anyone in particular:
Anyone doubting me will be shocked sooner or later even if you hate "UI" mods or not.
Not all UI mods / addons will be visible all at the same time, these things can be set to hide/show.
If people want minimal information shown on their screen or a less cluttered UI messing up their gameplay,
then this option can be chosen from multiple user created addons/mods. (not all designers share same ideas)
( It's no more diffrent from some of our cool custom-made signatures, its basicly the same idea.)
Thats the main point of it all, customization for any user.
You could even minimize the entire UI to one small bar at the bottom for example,
and by clicking 1 icon it could make the minimap to pop up or dissapear completly.
I like the idea of the party members "threat Meter",
that can be easily added via a small indicator on the party window.
Just a small dot that changes color indicating the party members current threat.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
