    7.4 Through the Thunder quest

I noticed that when we enter into the 9th shard that everyones warding scales go off. Ok that's to be expected given the imbalance. Except there's a weird quirk about the cutscene.

Krile doesn't have a warding scale. She doesn't get the same shielding and glow effect that everyone else (sans us) gets.

And then if you speak with Graha after he notes that you're lucky to have the blessing of light.

Someone remind me cause it's been a bit since endwalker but does Krile have the blessing of light? I vaguely remember that the Echo and the Blessing were kinda swapped around or you got one when you got the other.

I might have just forgot but does everyone who has the Echo also have the blessing of light?

Yes she does. Anyone who hears Hydaelyn's voice gets the aegis that prevents aetherial corruption. It's just that for most echo users, the first thing that happens upon becoming aware of the echo is hearing Hydaelyn's voice so everyone attributed the protection to the echo.

The Echo and the Blessing of Light are separate but often intertwined things, and yes, Krile has both. We know a couple people who probably only have the Echo, at least as far as we know; Arenvald and Mikoto immediately come to mind, as do the Resonant people.

But even if she only had the Echo she'd still probably be fine, because the Echo also protects against aetheric corruption. This is actually one of the early snafus of the English localization that we still struggle through: Midgardsormr explicitly says in the Japanese script that the Echo and the Blessing of Light both protect against tempering.

At this point, I'm just gonna assume getting the Blessing of Light is what activates whatever form of the "Echo" a person gets from their abilities before they were sundered.

All this "they're different but also the same but do different things (we think) and also you get them at the same time by seeing the star shower thing but also hearing Hydaelyn and some people with it have different abilities called the same thing." Bluh. It is so weird and unnecessarily confusing and every time I read anything about it, everyone has a different take.

Krile has the Echo. The Echo keeps you from being tempered. Being tempered involves your aether being heavily forced towards a single element, which is aetheric corruption. Thus, the Echo prevents aetheric corruption, and Krile, who has the Echo, cannot have her aether corrupted by the 9th's intense lightning.

I agree with you here. It's just unecessarily confusing because it's clear the writers have no clue how to handle its writing.

Honestly, while I don't think it's that confusing, I do think it's very ignorable.

Yes, there are some extra powers that people get with the Echo; on top of the 'core ability set' of language understanding and not getting tempered, there's some nebulous amount of 'extra powers' that people get sometimes. Our Echo visions appear to be one of them (Minfilia had this too), there's Krile's power to see aetheric traces, Mikoto's future sight, and maybe the possession we see Zenos and the Sahagin High Priest crack out (neither is essentially the Truthful Infodumping sort so that's still an open question). However, it also doesn't matter; literally, the last time any of those additional Echo powers have ever been relevant to my recollection was Shadowbringers.

I do think 'other Echo powers' was maybe an idea they had early on that didn't pan out; you see this bubble up around Heavensward and Stormblood and then disappear just as quickly. Unfortunately they gave some of this attention to major recurring characters, so they could never completely put it back in the bottle.

Walkers (people who have the Echo) by default have the "blessing of Light", i.e. Venat's traveller's ward. That is, everyone who ever heard "hear, feel, think" was given the blessing and have the extra protections against corruption of aether. They tend to be a package deal. We know people who probably only have one or the other—the Resonant probably only have their artificial Echo as far as we've been told, while the Oracles of Light don't seem to have the Echo in any capacity but might have inherited Minfilla's blessing of Light. At the very least the Oracle of Light we meet, Ryne, certainly doesn't have the Echo, but she seems to have some aetheric protections that would have protected her from Light corruption, or at least she believed she did.

Regardless, it's a safe assumption that if someone is has the Echo then they have the blessing of Light.

It was a plot point back in the Warring Triad quests in Heavensward that Krile was the only one who could operate their containment controls for us to fight them, because she was the only other person immune to tempering in our group. So yes, she does have the Blessing.
