    I only have a few hours a week to play the game

    Every weekend I am constantly getting disconnected at the end of boss fights. The DDos attacks have become a real issue. I have been looking at the live letters or anything that seems to address this but I haven't seen anything. Tonight I was looking forward to playing but maintenance, so I am really lost what is going on here. I havent seen anything about any refunds. My only interaction with customer support was horrid, so I don't what to call and complain but after months of being patient now im reduced to forum posts or just cancelling my subscription. I just want to play the game or understand why I can't.

    Yeah support told me it was an issue with my ISP or security settings that was causing me to DC...sure

    Technically, Square Enix are correct. It isn't Square Enix, but a box immediately next to the Square Enix servers. So, yes, it is my personal connection issue, but it's also the personal connection issue of every single player that has the audacity to connect to the North American servers.

    It's all well and good to say that it's not the fault of Square Enix or its servers, but frankly, if you own a themepark and there is an elephant on the road leading into the themepark, and you just say "we don't own the road, it's not our fault", then you lose all your customers. At a certain point, you have to either contact people to get the elephant removed, or move the themepark to a new location.

    In similar fashion, the elephant in the room must be tackled by contacting ISPs and purchasing their DDoS protection, or the North American servers need to move to a better location such as Texas or Arizona. Unless Square Enix is content with significantly downsizing its FFXIV customer base, which it seems pretty content with.

    Anyway, it seems people find it works to VPN to either Arizona or Los Angeles. Yes, the same VPN services you see advertised on YouTube all the time. Their benefit is not watching Netflix in different countries, but rather solving ping and lag issues in games.
