The fact it's happened on Christmas Eve at 1:40pmEST, an hour that does not line up with both peak gamer hours and most people are on holiday, is so bloody suspicious.

I would love to know if any Xbox players are struggling, since PSN is doing better than us PC players.

I got booted after seven minutes of logging in this morning and just now got booted for the third time today. This is just beyond ridiculous at this point.

While I was on my hiatus people were telling me about how severe the DDoS situation was getting and I brushed it off like it was just an exaggeration. Even chuckled about because in my experience EVERY MMO experiences some kind of network issues and FFXIV was always on the lesser end of that spectrum of issues. But this is different. Clearly my faith in SE was misplaced because after resubbing a couple days ago I can really see how rampant its gotten. Like, 2 in the last 2 hours is unforgivable and from what I understand they haven't even addressed it yet.

TLDR according to people much more tech savvy than myself, it's an issue with their ISP/datacenter provider in NA, NTT. Rather than a direct attack on FFXIV, NTT nodes in Texas and California are being attacked so any traffic routed through them gets kicked off the game. They need to switch providers because this is completely unacceptable for a paid service.

Until another Japanese provider lays their own cable, xiv will be stuck with NTT. Square is too racist apparently to have a contract with an American provider.

400,000 people unsubscribed compared to 6.4 and 6.5 and they don't even really mention it or seem bothered by it.

Exactly which means it isn't enough to make them care so needs to be even more which is just sad honestly.

I appreciate that you took some time to address some of the confusion. Has anyone mentioned the use of VPNs to navigate around them yet? I've never used one personally but if my basic knowledge of how server networks and pathing is correct we should be able to connect elsewhere with the cost of a higher ping

I've heard of people having success preventing full DCs with Cloudflare Warp, but it doesn't work 100% of the time. Still better than nothing though.

Weirdly enough, they use Akamai (an American company) in JP so that's not it. If you've ever wondered why JP never suffers from the same issues it's because Akamai provides actual effective DDOS mitigation.

I always chalked it up to being a less busy infrastructure over there compared to the likes of silicon valley.

Only time I can play at peak hours is fri and sat. I work a swing shift so I am not online til late in the evening. By then the issue has settled, but my friend last night did inform how bad it's been. I got lucky had a smooth m12 run with no party or connection issues. Did get dc'd mid conversation with my friend but that's all. As I said though I am mostly a late nighter on work days.
