I never understand why people ask for darker moments, as if shadowbringers or endwalker didn't have a lot of those already.I really want to see Square Enix take more risks and lean into their darker undertones! Gamers play games that deal with complex and difficult themes everyday.
I dont want you to play it safe anymore. I want you to WOW ME! SHOCK ME! Make me FEEL for your characters and your game. Prove to me that you understand that your players can handle these darker themes, and that you dont think we're just 5 or 10 years olds who might buckle at the mere thought of getting a cut. GET DARKER! I loved Arcadian right up until the end because it was trending towards those dark and complex themes, but at the last you ripped it back away and turned it into the equivalent of a Care Bears episode where everyone wins.
Because darker moments help move and sell a story. Honestly if every expansion were like Dawntrail, I think most folks would have left ages ago...
I'm not asking for everything to be a dark moment. Just that when something is a good dark moment we dont about face immediately and turn it all into happily ever after.
Happily ever after, is actually pretty rare in my life experience. I'd like to actually find the story believable in that regard.
Personal preference and to each their own though I guess.
I genuinely loved this patch MSQ wise. Still working on some other things but for the storyline, it was such a marked improvement!
I was a little sad to see the Erenville and the Twins get rushed off at the start, since I'd been theorizing Erenville was going to end up becoming the Beastmaster. I am glad they gave Wul the boot swiftly during the first scene in a 'my people need me' manner, letting us finally be able to breathe. Krile got such development and story beats that were much needed, and loved the Milala people. The dungeon was good, not too infuriating for once, and I greatly enjoyed Doomtrain as a trial.
The new Ascian is beautiful and has a very nice voice, and Calyx being a plush doll is hilarious.

This patch could have been named the Krile show,

I dont know where XIV lost its edge but the fact nothing bad can permanently happen anymore makes the game's world feel fake.
