I leveled Viper to 90 (thoroughly had a blast, I’m a dual wielding swords lover) and then started the Dawntrail MSQ.

I cancelled my subscription after Wuk Lamat showed me where to get tacos. So ridiculous. She herself is an extremely annoying character. And why does the music in her hometown sound like the music that plays when a race ends on Mario Kart 64?

The whole thing just didn’t make a good first impression and I’m extremely disappointed. Shadowbringers was peak FFXIV for me.

I’m afraid years from now I’ll be one of those old men that reminisces about the good old days on my porch from my rocking chair while throwing stones at the dumb kids playing Final Fantasy MXIV on their PlayStation Holodeck chip implanted in their skulls who are doing hot dog eating contests in Newer Gridania.

For me, it's because I can't come to terms with "cyberpunk FF9". The constant exposure to this, even in the patches, just makes me feel sick. If I want Star Wars or Star Trek, I'll play those MMORPGs, because they actually do it well. I'm playing this for fantasy. Castles, knights, magic, not... electrified, technology-lit, yet supposedly fantasy buildings.

Tacos is meant to be a reference to FF11, the other Final Fantasy MMO, I believe, which apparently also had tacos. As you will know by now, they frequently reference prior final fantasy games, all of the time, and that was one of the references.

In general, the developers are not afraid to stereotype each culture, including their own. Kugane, for example, heavily stereotypes Japan filling it with Samurai, stereotypical Japanese music, rice and even taking the Ninja quests there. It's only fair that they also stereotype America and given America never stops talking about tacos, it only makes sense for that to get stereotyped.

Mostly, the city state music in all the cities isn't good. I preferred the original Radz-at-Han music rather than what we get after the Endwalker MSQ is over.

This is a classic example of trying to please everyone and ending up pleasing no one. Like ancient culture? Let’s throw the Incas in there. Like cyberpunk? Let’s also throw that in there. Like easy stuff? Let’s make the game as easy as a visual novel. Like hard stuff? Let’s drop you off a cliff after never encouraging you to play the game.

They just throw everything there and it doesn’t work well together.

This reminds of me when Nicolas Cage literally picked up every movie that was thrown his way and became a joke. Basically, it ruined his career. This game is following the same trajectory.

Yep. As bad as DT's writing was, it's not like it's Wuk Lamat that kept the gameplay and progression the exact same for the last 6 years.

To be honest I was thinking that if SE would have gone All-in with wuk lamat being awful and stupid, turned that up to 11, she would have been more of a joke instead of being hated.

What you’re implying here is not true. I hate what WoW has become. I have only been playing it because the housing system is truly a masterpiece so far. It brought back some of my friends and we made a neighborhood together. We are running content to get furniture pieces and it’s been great reconnecting with them.

My main MMO lately is LotRO, despite the lag. I enjoy losing myself in an actual fantasy world without cars, flying mounts, and power ranger space suits.

Shadowbringers was such a climax for all my MMO gaming over the last 26 years.

This does not apply to me. I didn’t realize this notion existed before I experienced it. And not all of WoW is better, only the housing system.
