Change summoning Companion into a General Action

For the life of me I cannot understand why the Companion is still tied to Gyashl Greens item. I understand the original intent but at this stage of the game it's just plain annoying to have an inventory space locked-in just to be able to summon your companion outside.

Option 1: I believe it would make a lot more sense to have the Companion Choco simply tied to a General action that unlocks upon reaching and completing the appropriate MSQ and GC quests (as they are now), and remove the 30min timer.

Option 2: If this is still not desired, since it might be too much work/effort to go back and change how existing unlocks and content works now, I would then propose to add a General Action - Call Companion that could unlock via a new Quest that is added and becomes available upon Compaion reaching level 10

This action would be a simple toggle, and should call Choco out to fight alongside you without the current 30 minute timer. Using the action again would banish your companion. When the companion dies, there would be a 10s cooldown before being able to call Choco out again (similar to how it is now with Gyashl Greens when the companion dies).

Notes and Contingencies: If this were implemented via Option 2, then having Choco out via this action should disable usage of Gyashl Greens, though they would still be usable to call Choco out normally for 30min if it wasn't already, though it would be a waste to do so this way. In the rare event Choco is out via Gyashl Greens, using the new "Call Companion" action would keep Choco out but remove the 30min timer. I believe that covers all the odd scenarios that might arise having both Gyashl Greens and the proposed Action in the game.

I do think the AI on Choco is pretty horrible, especially when it's set to freestyle. Personally I still use it, though, primarily while leveling BLU (I haven't capped that job yet), or like you said when doing some type of Overworld task like Fates or possibly Reputation quest tasks in some scenarios. Anwyay I honestly wouldn't be opposed to a complete overhaul of the system too, but I figure asking for that would be a tall order XD

I still want a moogle companion.

Once you cap out the chocobo, it's a shame there isn't any further improvement.

    More options would be nice.

I, for one, wish to bring my Retainer(s) with me lol.

Haha, poor bird and its terrible AI. I agree it could use some "brain restructuring". I personally use mine as purely DPS mode to prevent it from doing too many weird things, but even then it spams Stun so often that if there's a mob you actually need to stun, your dear companion has made sure the mob is resistant to it at that point. Always awkward when Chimeras are involved, but thankfully it's not something that comes up often.

How about making Gysahl Greens a key item instead? The functionality would remain but it'd free up the space in your inventory and it sounds like it'd be fairly easy to implement. They're very cheap and can be bought anywhere, so I'm not bothered about buying 100 of them and forgetting about it.
A skill is good too, but having more random stuff in my hotbars or having to navigate the menu every time I want something (like the Dig skill) is annoying to me personally. Maybe it'll be easier to manage with the special hotbar they're adding soon, but a key item would be the most elegant solution to me.
