Why do people spam Ready Check at the last boss of ARs?

I'm mostly just venting frustrations... people didn't use to harass everyone (including the sprout, because the pop-up text shows up just like the arena closing warning one) while waiting for cutscenes back when I did this not even that long ago. Very much a bAcK iN mY dAy moment, but I don't know, we used our eyes to see if someone was in a different area of the map or far away enough from the arena to make it obvious they were watching a cutscene.

It's not rocket science, and yet I wish there was a way to permanently deactivate Ready Checks in ARs because it's a plague. They do 2-3 back to back, and if the poor sprout is still watching a cutscene they pull anyway. So why the Ready Check then?

I'm just annoyed, is all. Whenever I ask nicely to quit spamming it (and by nicely I literally mean using please and thank you, no mean language or passive-aggresiveness), people defend it like it's the only way to tell someone is in a cutscene when the party list is right there, when you can turn your camera around and see the sprout standing in the hallway with the icon on top of their heads.

I love doing ARs and used to queue out of fun, especially when it's anything Weeping City and up. But the Ready Check spam is so ridiculous it makes me not want to queue unless I absolutely have to. At some point this has to count as disrupting everyone else's experience when they keep spamming it back to back, and honestly just one is enough to annoy me nowadays. Part of me even wants to early pull just to prevent them for sending another one, but I feel bad for the sprouts so I just sit and mald lol.

Worst part is I can't even ignore it, because it wouldn't be the first time ANOTHER one gets sent because ONE (1) person didn't click yes T_T release me from this torment.
Does this also happen anywhere outside of Chaos or is something in the water here?

Note that I perfectly understand one Ready Check after waiting for a while for cutscenes to end. This is normal and what I understand to be the inteded behavior of this function. But spamming it as soon as the cutscene begins, keep spamming it throughout and then just pull anyways is making me hate the people that think this is appropriate group content etiquette. Thanks for checking out my rant of the day.

To see if people are ready and have viewed the cutscene, that's pretty much it.

If you're in a group that's actually "spamming" it, that's gotta be an extreme outlier. I wouldn't worry about it.

If it is happening regularly though, maybe you should have the water @ Chaos tested

It happens every single time. It's driving me insane lol and I know they're doing it to check who is in the cutscene, but there's much less annoying methods than spamming the entire group multiple times.

Generally over here, we see it twice at the a-raid CS boss. Once when we first get in, and when the time runs out on it, they'll do one more, if someone was in one, then pull. That's generally enough time to get through a mid dungeon CS and everyone should be ready to roll by then.

Yeah the twice ping is usually what I see, too. Admittedly the loud noise is startling but overall I assume the main reason is that, especially for ARs and longer instances people tend to do stuff on the side and having the audible indicator to wait and then the go-ahead is more comfortable to make sure everyone is on the same page rather than assuming everyone in a 24-man instance is looking behind them to make sure all sprouts have made it. I doubt it is ever really meant to spam and pressure folks lagging behind, ready checks are normally really just that, a test to see is everyone is there. If it was impatience people would just pull and not give a crap about asking at all.

But maybe that is different on other DCs? If so I am sorry, I can see how that might be obnoxious. It still beats people just ignoring sprouts and pulling a boss ahead of time like it used to be in Prae, though. If nothing else the ready checks do give them a little bit of extra time to catch up after a long CS, even if the pull is still somewhat early. I know I always preferred that when doing new content to phasing into the fight and the boss is at half HP.

    1. It has always happened. It was happening in Stormblood. It was happening in Heavensward.

    2. People are not generally aware that you can tell if anyone is in a cutscene by seeing if any party or alliance names are shaded, or in the last nier raid by looking around you to see if there is a cutscene icon by someone's name.

I have been trying to raise this awareness lately by saying it in alliance raids and on the forums sometimes but like with almost everything, the casual playerbase of this game just doesn't know hardly anything and doesn't stick around long enough to learn it. It's just like how nobody understands snapshotting, cast bars, tank interrupts, esuna, the existance of the legacy movement setting, etc. They don't know, so they do a ready check instead.

Imo it's not a big deal in alliance raids, just pull.

This isn't prae/castrum days anymore, it's not a big deal to miss out on 1-2 autos and a raid wide.
And if you do really care enough to wait till 24 people are 100% done loading and cut scene watching then just suck it up and mute sounds.

I've only ever seen people do two ready checks--one to check for cutscenes, and then one after to check to see if the cutscene watchers are ready after the scene is over. People usually pull after that even if some come up not ready because no one comes up instantly not ready.

The final boss in San d'Oria: The Second Walk starts with a tankbuster on all 3 Tanks if one of the tanks is not in the arena it hits a DPS. So unless you want to kill a dps you have to wait for the tank to finish the cut scene anyway.
