Are we expecting TO MUCH from 8.0?

This pretty much. 7.3 was the final straw for me, I basically quit the moment the final cut scene was through - DT was a hard ride so far, and I'm really not interested in Ascians Bogaloo Asahi 2.0 edition, tyvm. Just returned for the Moogle event, as I always liked this sort of easy going gameplay.
Will neither stay for 7.4, nor buy 8.0 - unless I hear widely praise in the form of "they really learned from their mistakes". Which means I will most likely not be back

So, SE - ball's on your side now, go ahead and proove me wrong!

I actually don't have very high expectations. My biggest hope is that the MSQ makes me feel what I felt when I played through Shadowbringers and Endwalker. I'm hoping for a return to that level of storytelling. To play through a damn good/compelling, story, enjoy it, reflect on it, and sometimes watch reaction videos from other players to see if they felt the same way I did when they experience it.

I'm not getting my hopes up at all right now. I'm expecting the bare minimum, to be honest. If they do knock it out of the park and give something like Shadowbringers again, I'll be over the moon, but I just can't see that happening again, sadly as much as I would want that.

history suggest that we need 3 expansion packs worth of buildup and foreshadowing before we can have another shadowbringers

There will be a large part of the community who will not be happy with 8.0, 14's community is too varied in what we like for it to be the case.

In my case I care most about if a Job is fun to play, think WOW does it very well (When I played retribution paladin the class feel felt like I was permanently in FFXIV's paladin burst window). I really dislike this planning around a 2 minute meta, repeat x rotation y times until 2 minutes then do z.
I wish they would burn it to the ground and just make job's much more free-form , if that makes past ultimate's trivial or harder I really couldn't care, I don't do them and its an absolute minority of the community that does. They dipped their toes into this with VPR and PCT and the jobs were well received.
Ultimate enjoyers would potentially be very upset if it trivialised the fight but really from my POV if 10 more years are planned, you cant let the last 10 weigh you down.
I know full well that this view of mine isnt shared, but its an example.

Only those with rose coloured glasses, lost in the "SE Can do no wrong" mindset wil be happy with 8.0

The game is in such a bad state right now that you honestly can’t expect too much from 8.0 because there is a legit argument to be made DT is the worst state the game has been in since arguably 1.0 because it’s the first time where the population has completely cratered without a real solution as to what’s going on

Like there were periods in HW that felt bad and EW’s patch content had the promise of DT but at this point does anyone have a cohesive actionable plan to fix the game. I certainly don’t
