Allied Society Quests in FFXIV: Rich in Lore, But Stuck in the Past

Final Fantasy XIV is undeniably one of the most complete MMORPGs available today, with deep narratives, refined mechanics, and an ever-expanding world. However, not all content within the game has evolved at the same pace. The Allied Society Quests, formerly known as Beast Tribe Quests, are a clear example of this issue.

At their core, these quests were created to immerse players in different cultures, expand the game’s lore, and offer unique rewards as reputation with each society increases. On paper, the idea is excellent. In practice, however, this content has become increasingly dated, overly repetitive, and incompatible with the game’s current pace.

The system is almost entirely based on the daily repetition of extremely simple and predictable tasks: collecting items, defeating a small number of enemies, delivering objects, and returning to the quest-giving NPC. The problem lies not only in the simplicity of the missions, but in the excessive number of weeks — required to reach maximum reputation rank.

In a game that has received so many quality-of-life improvements over the expansions, it is contradictory to maintain such a slow, rigid, and monotonous progression model.

For new players, this represents a true marathon of repeated content just to obtain mounts, minions, or titles that often no longer have practical value in the current meta of the game. For veteran players, the issue is even more apparent: it means revisiting an outdated system that does not respect the player’s time and offers little engagement beyond the final reward.

Furthermore, a large portion of these quests was designed for an older version of the game, when progression was slower and the overall amount of content was smaller. Today, in a scenario filled with raids, dungeons, ultimates, Island Sanctuary, treasure hunts, relic quests, and constant seasonal events, requiring players to repeat the same tasks for dozens of consecutive days is not just exhausting — it is counterproductive.

The Allied Society Quests do not need to be removed. On the contrary, they hold interesting stories, charismatic characters, and memorable moments in FFXIV’s lore. That is precisely why they deserve an urgent modernization.

A Real Solution Proposal: A Community-Driven Reworked Model

The FFXIV community has long discussed possible improvements for this system. Below is a realistic and feasible rework model, based on mechanics that already exist within the game:

    1. Reduced Progression Time

Currently, reaching maximum rank with an allied society can take 30 to 45 days or more, depending on the expansion.

    Community suggestion:

Reduce the time for the max rank.

    Increase reputation gains per quest.

Increase the Allowances for all society quest.

Add a weekly reputation bonus for completing all daily quests consistently.

This would make the experience more respectful of the player’s time without removing the sense of progression.

    2. Partial Replacement of Dailies with a Weekly System

Instead of relying solely on repetitive daily missions, progression could include:

3 daily quests (as it is today)

1 special weekly quest with a unique objective, such as:

    A mini solo dungeon

    An exclusive tribe-specific FATE

    A simplified trial

    A special story sequence

This weekly mission would grant a large amount of reputation and encourage meaningful engagement with the society’s narrative.

    3. A “Contracts” System (Dynamic Assignments)

Inspired by Levequests and Hunts, players could choose from:

    Combat missions

    Crafting missions

    Gathering missions

    Hybrid missions (exploration + puzzle-solving)

This would create real variety within the societies themselves, allowing players to choose how they want to progress.

    4. Modernization of Old Rewards

Many current rewards are purely cosmetic and lack relevance. The community proposes:

    Adding current crafting materials

    Tokens exchangeable for recent tomestones

    Useful items for Island Sanctuary

Modern glamours tied to each society’s aesthetic

Small utility perks (reduced teleport fees, temporary social buffs, etc.)

This would restore practical relevance to forgotten content.

    5. Better Integration With the Current Game World

Right now, tribes feel “stuck in time.” The proposal suggests:

NPCs commenting on recent MSQ events

    Connections between different societies

    Small participations in seasonal events

    Cooperative side quests between tribes

This would strengthen the feeling of a living, evolving world instead of one fragmented by past expansions.

Conclusion: From a Tedious Obligation to a Living Experience

Final Fantasy XIV has repeatedly proven its capacity for renewal. The reworks of older dungeons, the Trust system, job adjustments, and relic improvements are all clear examples of that.

Therefore, this is not criticism for the sake of criticism — but the recognition of enormous untapped potential within a system that could easily become one of the richest world-building experiences in the game.

The Allied Society Quests deserve a second chance.
    Not as a tiresome obligation…
But as a vibrant, dynamic, and meaningful journey through Eorzea.
