The Alliance Fraction.

So i have an thought that was based off a video i saw about WoW and that the Allegiance and Horde are going to faction because of the void and light.

It kinda make me wonder if there is going to be a fraction between the grand company of Eorzea since most of the Ascians are gone, and we've survive the final days. It would be a perfect moment for outside forces like Winterer or something else to jump in to build tension in Eorzea for a goal they have in mind. While the Scions and us have to choose a side or find a way to stop an full out war.

I'd love to see a new antagonist faction pop up for us in 14! ^_^

Not going to happen - games which promote that sort of thing almost always connect it in with open world PvP as a main focus of gameplay, which FFXIV simply does not have and never will. Besides, there was a time early on where it looked like the WoL and the Scions were persona non gratia in Eorzea (at the end of ARR's patch story).. and yet it never amounted to anything really due to no one believing the Crystal Braves's lies. The citystates fighting one another is simply not going to happen.

Ah, gotcha. My brain twisted "fraction" into "faction" and I misinterpreted things. My bad.
Dealing with a civil war would be a fun plot device. Though, if they were to use that, I feel it would involve us landing in the middle of one between new nations we meet on the Source or nations on another shard, if we're visiting another shard for the next expansion.

It's not world of warcraft. Our PvP is playfighting / training exercises akin to airsoft.

i dont see this happening. i would like a few more eorzea areas though. so i wouldnt hate a story playing there again.
they could add areas from the tribes like an underground cave area. or northern coerthas where the unicorns live.

It used to be a big part of ARR to try and get these bickering cities to cooperate.

But it's been like 8 years of everyone just magically being friends after the most generic "let's get along" speeches, holding hands and singing kumbaya.

Boring. We don't have to go PvP route as the scions and WoL are supposed to be a neutral party after all. OP is right about alliances fracturing because there's no common enemy. In fact, there's been conflict among ilsabard nations/alliance once they're free from Garlemald already.

Seriously, civil war is probably the easiest way to present nuances and prevent the WoL from solving (all) problems with fist alone.

Though after DT I no longer believe they're capable of writing anything containing subtlety or nuances.

Probably could play around that idea if they toss the WoL into a different shard alone for a bit, given the different rate at which time passes in them and a pretty large part of why Eorzea's in peace is because no one wants to cross the WoL.

Really doubt the devs would even dare to do such a thing though.
