re-edit your character

I decided to use my inventory item that lets me change my appearance when I log back in but it tells me to use "the subcommand menu" but I don't have that menu.

Back out to character select, right click your character, then select "Re-edit character appearance". Apparently you can only do it if your not wearing armor.

Ensure that you take all of your armor and jewelry off excluding your weapon and soul crystal, log off, right-click your character and select to edit your appearance. If you forgot to take off any gear pieces, it'll ask you to log in to remove them before you can change your character's look.
