3 teams is unfortunately most ideal. As others have said, if it's 1v1, this would lead to people on the losing team giving up and afk'ing too fast once they realized it would be an "impossible" win. If there are instead 3 teams however, then its possible for any team to surge back ahead via dominating one of the other two still, or even in some cases as I've witnessed myself multiple times, letting anger get the best of the other teams and winning via abruptly focusing on the objectives instead. If its 1v1, everyone is too focused on exactly how to win, right? Not much room for mistakes. 1v2's though leads to a LOT of confusion, and THAT confusion is what makes anyone being able to win possible. "Why is yellow simping for red??" "blue is throwing" "red only fights us lol" All by design. A battle of unhinged unpredictable behavior of 3 different teams of sweaty highly agitated people who will do anything-ANYTHING to get that match over with, and win. Inflicted chaos, in a situation you would think would be so straight forward and easy. Anything but.
