Confronting Hydaelyn

Dears, I'm so tired of solo (?) duties...

So, here I am, at confronting Hydaelyn with a team of NPCs. Luckily, I can play my own class, however, it's not sufficient: I don't achieve to manage it.

What I do: I stick to Urianger and move together with him all the time. This helps me a lot. I manage up to Hydaelyn's health down at about 70%. But no matter what, soon or later, although I stand together with all NPCs grouped together, I die at a giant AOE and I'm sent to beginning, with no offer of an easier mode!

My questions:
- Is it correct: There is no duty finder version and also no easier mode?
- Any hints you could give me that would help me getting rid of it?

Hi, Lu!

You can do this one with a group of NPCs, but this is no solo duty, it's a trial! That is why there is no easier mode... but it also means you should be able to queue with a group of players and they can help you past the finish line if needed. It should be listed as "The Mothercrystal", lvl89 in the trials section.

I haven't done this trial in ages, admittedly... so my only idea of what might be killing you is a stack marker with lower HP than needed to survive, or a stack + aoe (on both Urianger and you, thus taking more damage than you can survive, or maybe just a raidwide attack) combo. It is worth recording yourself as you go through the trial so you can check back on it to figure out what killed you if you don't want to use any guides.
I found this video guide that might help you pin down what is killing you exactly. I hope it is helpful.

Oh my... What an idiot I am! Thank you so much Shistar! I didn't realize that "The Mothercrystal" was the name! I was 1) too fast and 2) searching for something containing "Hydaelyn". I didn't realize that the second name in the trial list for Endwalker was the one... LOL

No worries! If you talk to any of the Trust NPCs they will always ask you if you wanna go with them or with a group of players, which pops up the menu with the duty you're trying to enter already highlighted. I hope you enjoy the rest of EW!

If you do want to do it with NPCs, I've read that Y'shtola is the best character to follow in this fight as she can sense where all the aetherial attacks are coming from. That might not hold true for other fights.

I've seen Urianger run right into AOEs in other content (Holminster Switch second fight) so I wouldn't trust him as a battle buddy.

Yeah, i would second the advice that sticking to Y'sh is better then sticking to Uri. It works everywhere but the level 85 dungeon(which makes sense in the lore). The trust mode for this fight actually has a "hidden" easier mode, but it might not be exactly the help you need. You are given a buff at the start of the fight that lets you revive a number of times before the party wipes(i forget the name of it, the icon is like the silhouette of a guy). If you do wipe, when you respawn at the start the buff gets extra charges - thus allowing for more deaths before you get to the one that counts. I know this stacks for 2 or 3 wipes, so i assume it stacks as high as you can get it during the time limit for the instance.

But of course, this being a normal trial, just going with a group of players will be your easiest option. Players can still wipe(and it isnt the easiest fight), but generally they pull through.

Y'shtola will sometimes, relatively rarely, greed mechanics because she's casting. But she will never lead you to your death in theory (unless you stack an aoe on both of you) so you kinda have to keep an eye out for her sometimes.
She's one of the most reliable NPCs to follow, I agree with everyone else on that.

The fight itself has some memorization:

Green symbols = run out O
Red symbols = run inside the hitbox circle O
Blue symbols = + pattern, X areas are safe
Rocks = stack together with party
Ice = spread apart
