It's time to ask again: what's MP for?

Raising? That's it? What's MP for, seriously? In a lot of non 8 man content it's not even an excuse anymore since we can use phoenix downs.
Are you going to do like TP when it gets in the way and delete it too, or you're too afraid to do it because MP is a FF staple?

What do you plan to do about MP for 8.0? Leave it in that terrible useless state? Why do we still even have MP bars on non magical jobs?

Question becomes if they make MP management relevant again is that gonna be fun for a majority of players? I suspect most people would be upset they can't use their buttons because their normal rotation leaves them OOM. Making MP management relevant for burst would be fun. But again too many players would fail this and we would likely see it removed again.

I just don't get this mindset. Managing MP is a staple in the RPG and MMORPG genres. If people "don't like it," then they are in the wrong genre.

I get that, for some reason, XIV has attracted a ton of people who don't actually like the genre it is in, but what about those of us who do? Why does everything need to be tuned and dumbed down because a bunch of people who are playing a game in a genre they seemingly dislike don't like staple mechanics?

Overcoming obstacles and learning to manage MP usage is actually the draw and *gasp* fun for many folks. At what point will SE just tell these folks enough with the whining about everything standing in the way of their character and their favorite pavement princess costume while they sit in Limsa dance emoting and whining that everything in game is too hard for them on the forums?

Dying isn't fun so they should remove that too.

Like the previously removed ingame systems, it's just an aesthetics bar/number, but seems to be heading for removal ever since FFXIV tried to turn itself into a single player pseudo visual novel animal crossing identity crisis crossover game.

I feel like the only job where I seriously notice MP is Red Mage. After doing my rotation for long enough, I realize I need to press Lucid. I can't think of any other jobs where that's the case. Maybe occasionally healers, but they all have actions that restore MP naturally if you don't press Lucid.

Anyway, the real reason they can't remove it is because Yoshi-P criticized 1.0 for the fact that no matter how much you cast heals, you never ran out of MP.

We are so close to that being the case now as well. I can currently spam Physick and Cure without ever running out of MP. Same with Holy III. And most healing now is done with abilities that don't consume any MP anyway.

I still have a shred of foolish hope that they're going to bring back Foe's Requiem any day now...

    Any day now...

SE spent so much time catering to the people wanting everything to be the most braindead possible that they would likely not go back in any significant manner. They probably fear losing too much people if they make things more difficult. Just look at Dawntrail's dungeons, they slightly increased the general difficulty and we had a bunch of threads whining about them being impossible and asking for nerfs. I saw one dude calling the first boss of Alexandria "midcore content", lol.

I would like to see more MP management like any other RPGs but that's very unlikely to happen, SE are too afraid of upsetting the people spending 90% of their time emoting in Limsa.

I don't think there would be any particular issue with making MP management relevant if there was a failsafe to prevent mistakes from completely bricking the job unless you carry around super ethers.

Like if there was a GCD button that recovers some MP per use, so there's still consequences for messing up but you also don't become useless for an extended period of time (like MNKs in HW were 2/3 into a long fight without getting Goad).
