We do take breaks in between expansions and during some of the quarterly patch. (usually x.2x and x.4x) as we not raiders.

With the amount of "break in case of emergency" glasses they're smashing recently, I imagine they're pulling out all the stops for 8.0. I think it's a little premature to think it's joever because of one bad MSQ, and recently they've told us that they're going to be commited to making content that can be enjoyed by all types of players, not just ultra-casuals and ultra-hardcore (we'll just have to see if that ends up being true). As for the MSQ, they just need to put miss Ishikawa at the helm again and we'll be drowning in kino. Everything that woman writes is either gold (SHB) or not-quite-gold-but-damn-its-still-rather-nice-and-i-cried-anyway (EW but strictly 6.0). Also congrats on finding your SO in such a cute way

You're setting your expectation way too high.. I don't think the game itself is over... But it ain't a game, it's an algorithm masquerading as a game.

This whole idea of "Content designed for everyone" (all types of players), can be really destructive, and to be honest.. The lens that a fair number of people see this expansion is a pretty good testament to that.

I will say it's sad that it's "We need to put this person back at the helm" -- If this is the case then IMO talent isn't being cultivated enough, if they were... Wouldn't even notice.

I don't think 7.0 killed the game, but I do think that 8.0 will kill the game if it falls as flat as 7.0 did.

The shadow of WoW is casting ever longer what with the recent player count leaks and the new housing system. As much as I don't want FFXIV to be one of the recent additions to the 'maintenance mode because it tried and failed to compete with WoW' list, that's the current trajectory we're on.

So far they've not even been trying to revert the changes that caused that open wound to the MSQ. Like, it's not just "Wuk Lamat bad". It's the tone-shift altogether.
I'll reserve my final judgement until we get 7.4 with the commencement of the next storyarc, but I'm not exactly hopeful since they seem hellbent on continuing with their shounen levels of writing.

If Natsuko Ishikawa isn't personally writing 8.0 I'm already prepared for it to be garbage. She seems to be the only person at this company who can write a decent story anymore. No idea why they didn't have her write 7.0 when she was entirely the reason ShB and EW (aside from the patch cycle) were considered successful. My hope is she asked for a break for one expansion to write the next few all at once or something, but admittedly I am just huffing some PREMIUM copium there.
