As a left handed player I use a mouse in my left hand and the numpad + arrow keys with my right hand. I switch actionbars with the up and down arrow. It's a very easy way to play the game, but the set back is that I don't really use any macros except for gear swaps.

I use a combination of both. For blm straight up controller. IF you Hold down Left bumper and hit the right bumper, Y, B,or X button you an switch targetting modes (all, Party, ally, enemy) handy for blm ect...

THe targetting scheme you use also plays a roll for ease.

IF you do not set walk mode to the controller, then when navigatign around hearign based mobs, you will need to use X on he keyboard.

General movement is much easier and procise on the controller, but some targetting, like whm, is easier with mouse

you know i've done both ways on here and for this game I prefer the game pad. The UI and all of that for this game isn't really keyboard and mouse friendly (When I played 11 all I really used was keyboard never once touched a mouse for the game except for the rare occassions lol even when I pl'd people in 11 as a rdm I would use a keyboard... /target *insert name here* and bam i was good) As for whming i go game pad it's easier for me do to the fact that analog is for moving and updown left and right is for target and all i do is hit up on that part and i'm scrolling through the party members and targeting them.

Gamepad. You can relax, sit back, and get more of a final fantasy feel.

Actually if you hit up/down on your game pad it cycles through party member regardless of the filter. Left/Right will use whatever filter you have on.

I use a controller for everything but FPS's and Strategy games...and I rarely play those anyway.

you dont map hotbar slots to a controller, once you are in combat mode left, right, up, down on D-Pad moves the hotbar highlight

well thats what i meant by fumbling over skills. you have 3 pages of skills where most of them have mostly the same icon. blm has like 5 buffs with the same icon, its really hard to tell which is which, especially if i have to scroll over to the one i need.

the nostromo i had was perfect for this, but the analog stick and side buttons seriously strained by thumb after 20 minutes of use. im trying to find something else

I set my stuff up in the order I would use them, its easy with attacks since most are combos, but with buffs it can become a pain if you dont play that job very often but its really the same as KB+M if you dont play that class that often you will forget what some of the buff icons look like and have to read them ahead of time. Also I macro certain things like my surges for DRG, sentinel for WHM, stances for WAR etc.

example: if I wanted a fully buffed doomspike I would start with true thrust move over to leg sweep then down to blood for blood over to blind side over to keen flurry then up and over to doom spike. with animations I'm always on the next skill before it will allow me to use them and i spam my confirm button to use them as soon as I'm able.

if you also notice i keep things categorized like all my - hate abilities together in one area
