As an owner of one of these sets myself (Season 19, Shadowcleaver set, Rank 85 Light), I understand the value veterans subscribe to their Top 100 rewards, I truly do - but I sadly cannot side with the opinion of the "it should've stayed completely and utterly exclusive" crowd, for a couple of reasons.
Disclaimer: The basis of one or more of my reasons is based on the assumption that reintroduction of those rewards will contain "Replica" as a distinct name or item property.
1.) Distinction between the original & replica set through the Replica tag will highlight who is just "cosplaying" and who is actually a veteran of their respective era. The gear name for glamour can be inspected by hovering over glamoured equipment, so your visual display of your deeds and achievements is not lost. (mounts might be a tad more difficult)
2.) With the advent of 6.1's Crystalline Conflict, we utterly and completely lost unique Top X rewards while also gaining fairly sizeable updates to casual reward systems. On one end welcome for casual players, but also terrible for promotion of Ranked in general. If Ranked Top X sets return eventually like they do with Feast Top X rewards, then this could offer a potential for NEW Top X rewards to be introduced with temporary exclusivity (visually) as more Replica sets can be made for those that weren't successful in initially earning them. This is a net gain for all participants and offers more options.
3.) There is potential for Replica sets to be introduced via a new reward system for Ranked that can be obtained on any skill tier, at different speeds (think Wolfmarks but for Ranked-only). Whether or not you agree with how it is distributed, I believe every opportunity of making Ranked be rewarding at a much lower barrier of entry is a good way to promote the mode and solve a lot of issues regarding player onboarding & churning over the course of a season.
Overall, it is not going to be the end of the world and instead it actually just opens more possibilities while also giving the option of keeping original trophies distinct to their owners. It's worth it.
