ff14 downloader doesnt work because it is a torrent

I currently live on a major University which blocks torrents and am unable to go off campus to find another way to download the patch notes.... I am pretty much forced to use 3rd party sites to get patches. I have contacted support several times only to be shot down and the employer is not willing to let me talk to a manager. What options can I take if any? Is there a way to talk to one of the developers about this issue?

I have the exact same issue (heck I may even go to the same University as the poster above). My school has implemented a block on Torrents, and they are employing deep packet inspection to find them and block them. So forcing a encrypted connection to download won't work.

There needs to be a alternate way to acquire the patches.
This problem is made worse by SE going to the fan sites and requesting that they NOT host patches so I'm stuck until they are posted to "other" locations.

Torrents are a good way to save bandwidth for the host company but really there needs to be a fall-back option.

Anyway, in all seriousness, what the hell? Seems like it's the developers’ intention to make you do all sorts of shady things just to play their game. If you can't torrent an update, you have to go to less than legitimate sites, their paying option goes through a third party which I still don't entirely trust, and I'm receiving a problem which is causing me to disconnect from their server every 30 minutes and their answer is "Turn off your firewall" which is then qualified with "At your own risk." I like the game a lot, but some of these things just really have me shaking my head.

There is one thing you may be able to do.

There are online services where you can purchase encrypted access to a VPN, through which you should be able to use a torrent client. Since the packets are completely encrypted between your machine and the VPN, no amount of deep packet inspection should be able to read them and block them. It sucks that you have to pay extra on top of 'technology' fees in order to get true access to the Internet, but it should work.

Uhmmm.. Lets see... Well, how about when we purchased the damn game in the first place? Also the fact that this game wont stay the way it is now? As in it will NOT stay Free-To-Play. We are basically still in beta, but that's no excuse for poor customer support. >_>

Having lived on a university campus until two years ago, no major university will do this. They can't risk opening a port due to the potential for hacking and similar, so the only other options are clandestine. I don't know where the OP is from, but certainly in the UK, most major universities banned torrent use upwards of five years ago - even if for legal downloads such as Linux. They won't change now!

I'm struggling to get the patch anyway and I no longer live on a campus! I have a port forwarding system, but it's taken 3 hours to get 40% of it. Surely SE doesn't want people to seek out illegal means just to play their game? Is it unreasonable to expect an alternative?
