As far as I'm aware, they have said that current players will have priority over outside apps...could be wrong though, but could have swore I read that somewhere.

Oh..and it's not going to be down for 6 months lol...1-2 months tops..and 2 months may be pushing it even.

From what we've heard from Gamescom it's Alpha in the Fall, Beta in the Winter and release "early 2013."

That's assuming nothing major happens during the testing phases.

I'd say it's reasonable to start expecting a layout of the plan. We're paying customers who SE would like to retain, after all.

I don't mean to come off as "I deserve a place in this beta, I stuck through this game through thick and thin", because I realise that SE may not want such an easily pleased player Beta testing. Or that I deserve it because I pay for this game (no-one pays for the time Beta is on).

But I think secrecy for the sake of it is just being obtuse.
