    Main Story Ulimate Weapon

I am really new to the game, but have got to lvl 53 and stuck on Lahabrea, the last, I hope, part of this main story. I read online, that it is supposed to save the game at the point you have reached, to continue later, as it takes way too long in one sitting to do. But, if I do quit, as it has got too late, then when I restart the next day, I have to re-run the whole thing again from where you leave the airship to do it all over again. Now done this 5 times, but seems I am unable to beat Lahabrea with an NPC group. Not sure I am good enough to run with real players. Can any one explain please what is going on with this. I come from ESO and never encountered such a long drawn at story quest in any game I have played b4. You cannot even skip the cut scenes. Have to watch then over and over again. Or, are there any players willing to help a noob to get thru this. Thanks in advance.... I am playing as a Marauder(tank)

I just looked at your character and you are extremely undergeared so that may be the issue. You should be collecting an item called Tomestones of Poetics, you can use this to buy gear from a vendor in Mor Dhona, which is an easy route although it takes a lot of poetics for a complete set. You could also have a fc mate craft you some. If you up your gear ilvl you should be fine if you know even your most basic rotation. lvl 50 gear caps out at 130 for tomestone gear iirc and gear makes a huge difference in this game.

I want to add, you get tomes from doing roulettes and should be listed under your currency tab. They cap at 2k. You are looking for augmented ironworks gear

Thank you for the info, I will look in to it. Is there anyway that it should save at the different stages, or is it the case, that you have to re run from the beginning.

The game saves your progress automatically at certain points of the duty. If you log off, you will be kicked out of the duty and lose your progress. You'll have to start the duty again from the beginning. Sadly, there is no way to restart a duty from a previous checkpoint, as they get deleted when you exit the duty (due to disconnect, logging off or leaving willingly)

Whenever you're about to enter a duty of any kind (or really every 10 levels if you're lazy like me), it's a good habit to check if you can upgrade your gear in any way, especially as a tank. You can get gear from NPC merchants in towns and settlements, from dungeon coffers and as Micah mentioned before, Tomestones of Poetics.
These appear in a menu that pops up when you click on your gil counter, then go to the "Combat" tab. You can store up to 2000 Tomestones before you have to spend them (if you try to keep accumulating them, any new tomestones will be lost as you cannot store them). You can trade them for gear, weapons and other goodies at Mor Dhona or by talking to a Rowena Representative near the aetheryte at Gridania, Ul'dah or Limsa Lominsa.

For lvl50, you'll buy Augmented Ironworks gear. You can find the weapon in a separate tab, don't forget to buy it too! This will make a huge difference in your defense and HP, which is very important to you as a WAR. Also, make sure you're up to date with your job quests. In your HUD, under the MSQ quest sign, you may see a smaller bit of text. If it is there, that means you haven't finished all of your job quests, so make sure you do them because it gives you important skills and free gear every 10 levels once you get to the lvl50 quest.

Once you're done getting your stuff in order, you'll beat the duty easily!

To answer the other half of your question, as a rule Yes people are willing(and often happy) to help newer players through the story. In addition to exp for alternate classes they may potentially be leveling up, experienced players get a few small "bonuses" for helping new players complete instances for the first time. If the duty rewards currency, the bonus usually includes extra of that currency. And theres a secondary system of getting rewards(Wondrous Tails) for running old content that opens up at level 60, and helping newer players gives you points in it that you can use to try for better rewards.

With that said, im not positive this is a group instance instead of a solo one. Are you referring to the fight against the Ultima Weapon in the "Porta Decumana" instance, or the fight against Lahabrea that happens afterwards? If its the second one, this is a solo duty so other players cant join. Improved gear will still help though. Good luck!

Thank you for this, and yes, it is the fight against Lahabrea that happens afterwards. I have been upgrading gear from the notice board when I have the gold, but obviously, not as good as it needs to be for this fight. I will check all of the above and see what I can do. Coming from ESO, I am finding it hard, not to be able to craft my own gear, as and when I like. But I will get there..............

Nooo, don't use the Marketboard! You're getting scammed! That gear there is just players reselling the NPC merchant gear to get sprouts/lazy players to buy their stuff. Seriously, just forget about the Marketboard for now, you won't use it as a sprout until later.
Just buy straight from NPC merchants in towns or get the tomestone gear. Don't bother with Marketboard please.

The Marketboard is really useful, don't get me wrong, just not for this. You're spending way more than you need to, for worse gear than you should have. If you do your job quests up to lvl50, you'll get a set of gear for free that should get you through the duty no problem.

Fortunately, I have only bought 3 pieces from the market board and were quite cheap compared to some of the silly prices on there. Thanx again for the update, I will avoid and follow the other routes. I did acquire some fighters pieces from some quests I did, but were not as good, as what I was already wearing. The skills though were well worth it.
